Al Arqam Leader 'Created Tsunami'

A month before the death of Asaari Muhammad, also known as Abuya, the leader of Islamic religious movement Al Arqam, his second wife Hatijah Aam published a book titled "Tsunami: The Proof of Abuya, the Son of Bani Tamim."

The book claimed that Abuya created the Aceh tsunami in 2004.

Al Arqam was an Islamic religious movement in Malaysia that was banned by the federal government on Oct. 21, 1994. More than five Al Arqam members, including Assari were arrested in Thailand and flown back to Malaysia to be detained under the Internal Security Act.

Berita Harian, a Malaysian newspaper reported that Hatijah claimed her husband was capable of lifting seawater and making it fly. She said he sent the tsunami to Aceh to stop the fighting in the province. She also claimed that one family was spared from death during the 2004 tsunami after they shouted his name.

The book was published in Jakarta and Bandung in April. The Indonesian Ulama Council (MUI) in West Java urged the government to ban the book.

Abuya died on May 13 in a hospital in Ipoh, Malaysia.

He was also an avid campaigner for polygamy and the founder of a company called Global Ikhwan whose diverse activities include restaurants and noodle manufacturing.

The company provides homes, jobs, schools and medical facilities to its members.

It has thousands of members around the world with clubs similar to the one in Jakarta, in Europe, the Middle East and North America.

Although Al Arqam was established in Malaysia, and also Hatijah Aam is Malaysian, she didn't published her book in Malaysia but in Indonesia.

She wrote in her book, in 2004 tsunami, when family in Aceh was almost died, one woman in that family shouted "Yaa Allah, help !, Yaa Allah, help !". But her brother told her "Don't ask help to Allah !, but ask help to Abuya !". Then they shouted "Yaa Abuya, help !, yaa Abuya, help !". And a ship that drove by 'ghoib power' came and saved them. Hatijah claimed, this was a help from abuya.

Asaari Muhammad aka Abuya claimed himself as The Son of Bani Tamim, a man from east who will gives black flag to Imam Mahdi. However, Al Arqam people have their own Imam Mahdi. He is Muhammad bin Abdullah as-Suhaimi who had died almost a hundred years ago. But they believe, as-Suhaimi is still alive although his body has been buried.

After Abuya has died, Hatijah says, Abuya will revives from his death. Now, many Al Arqam follower are waiting near his grave.
