Jewish Afterlife

I've heard that the Jewish concept of afterlife is somewhat different than Islam and Christianity in that it is a little more lenient. So is it true? Could any Jew here explain the Jewish concept thereof? Exhaustive would be nice.

I don't know anything about the Jewish conception of the after life, but wiki and google might help. =P
