I have a silly question about your question. :) If you find something you dislike, and stop being a Muslim, then why would you want to take shahada again? What I am saying, is that if you ever decide to apostate and stop being a muslim after becoming one, then what makes you think at this point that you wold return a second time? It just seems a bit..... odd.... to ask questions about hypothetical situations that depends on potential future events that may never occur.

If you take shahada, then do it. I once saw someone say that it is beter to be a bad muslim, then no muslim at all. Personally, I disagree with this logic and feel it is flawed, because I am one who feels as though a bad muslim is no muslim at all, just as a bad christian is no christian at all. I do not understand how someone can claim to be a follower of a religion that they do not follow at all nor have any desire in their heart to follow. :) I am just thankful that I am not God who sits in judgment of others, and I am thankful he is merciful and ever forgiving for those who desire repentance. But if you want to become a muslim, then do so and follow Islam to the best of your ability, never ceasing in learning and bettering yourself and your faith. If at some point you doubt or find things you disbelieve, then pray and ask God to help remove your disbelief and to help you in understanding and in faith. But do not sit and think about being a wishy washer believer who may or may not flip flop from believing to not believing to believing again, and wondering if you may or may not be able to take shahada again at some hypothetical future event. It sounds as though you are already looking for an escape plan and back up plan of redemption. I would argue that if this is the case, then you are not yet ready to follow.

To answer your question, yes, if you messed up, but later repentented, you could re-take shahada. That is my understanding at least from what I have heard before.

First of all, i would like to congratulate you for taking this very important step in your life.

Doing the Shahada or being a submitted slave to Almighty God is a step that will give you happiness in this world and the hereafter.

You should by now know that when you make the Shahada all of your previous sins will be removed from your register. Not only that; they will all be made into good deeds. As Allah says in the very hope giving verse of the Qur'an "Except those who repent and believe (in Islâmic Monotheism), and do righteous deeds, for those, Allâh will change their sins into good deeds, and Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." (Furkan, 70)

Consider that when you become a muslim, as PouringRain said would be a better choice than not being one, even if you become a bad one. We believe that all human beings are sinful but thank God the door of repentance is opened until we are about to die; hence, you should not be stopped of taking your action just because you think you might become a bad muslim or mess things up. Who knows you might die after you claim your shahada or God gives you a blessed life and you might become a very good muslim.

I advice you not to think about your future on a negative manner. Our beloved Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) used to like and preach optimism, and that is what we should all do.

As far as your idea of being a bad muslim and can you go back again is a matter of Shaytan (Devil) who is trying to stop you from doing such a great deed that you have decided to do.

I would simply refuse those ideas by your logic with which you have came to accept Islam and take Shahada.

I hope I've helped you concerning your feelings. If you still have anything to ask or any thing your wondering around, please feel free to express it. People here are kind and will definitely help you decide that is best for you in both worlds.

As a non-Muslim I totally agree with Pouring Rain. (Love your new avatar, sister PR!)

Perhaps it's time to take a step of faith, Carl.
All your posts seem to be full of yearning for becoming a Muslim. If that's what your heart is clearly telling you, then GO and take the plunge.

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
