View Full Version : Question about Judgement Day

Salam alaikom brothers/sisters,

I'm confused about an issue about the day of judgement. The prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said that when we stand in front of our creator waiting for our 'book' to be handed in the right or left hand we will not care about anyone or anything because we'll be too anxious since we WILL NOT know what our faith will be.

However, the moment we die we'll have either peaceful angels or angry ones to take our soul in a kind way or vicious way. After that we'll be in our grave being punished or blessed.

Wouldn't you think that by the time of judgement day we will already know what our faith will be? If my soul is taken away in a foul manner then I know I've failed in this life, so therefore I know that I'll be punished in the grave and in the hereafter.

In other words, by the time judgement day comes along I will have died and endured the life of the grave.

The only possible answer I could come up with is that we will not remember the grave or this life on Judgment day but I doubt that because we will be remembered of everything we did.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.

Salam alaikom

Wa alaykum salam,

I'm not clear on this and hope others will correct if I am wrong InshaAllah but from what I understand, Allah will use the punishment of the grave to remove some of our sins so that we meet Allah on the day of judgement with a cleaner slate.

Open to correction..

Asalaamu Alaikum, jazakallahu khayran for your question brother. Rasulallah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) described the day of judgement as a "terrible day" and for most it will be a terrible day but for those who did good works they will have ease on that day. Everyone will be naked on the day of judgement but no one will care as everyone will be worried about their fate. Mothers will turn their children away and people will beg for one good deed on that day because on that day the only currency will be good deeds. That is why NOW is the time for us to build up our investment of good deeds and do everything in our life to please Allah.

Once the book of deeds are handed over if we recieve it in our right hand then we will be of the successful and we will rejoice. But those who recieve it in their left will recieve it and try to hide it behind them in terrible shame. That will be the point when we will know our ultimate fate.

If a person sees the angel of death in a nasty state and recieves the grave punishment then it may be that punishment will expiate certain sins the person has done in their life and once they have recieved their punishment then on the day of judgement they may be forgiven by Allah and saved from Jahannam. Or it may be that the person will recieve punishment in the grave and will enter into Jahannam.

One sin which causes the punishment of the grave is not being careful where one urinates. A Sahaba also recieved the punishment of the grave for not being careful where he urinated and he was used as an example to us so that we shouyld be fearful and extra careful when urinating to make sure it does not sprinkle everywhere. So this is an example of the fact that some may recieve punishment in the grave for certain sins they have done and others may recieve both punishment of the grave and in Jahannam. Not forgetting the day of judgment itself which is also a punishment for many as the sun will be so close to where the people will gather and the ONLY shade will be the Arsh(throne) of Allah. So we should always ask of Allah to be given a place in the shade of his arsh otherwise we will be scorched but death will be no more and anyone who goes through the punishment of the grave and the terrible torture on the day of judgement and in Jahannam will wish they were made into dust but they will be alive forever.

Our chance to build a better hereafter is NOW. Tomorrow may be too late as we can die at ANY second. Therefore let us remember death and the hereafter as much as we can and know that the next stage which is the stage of barzakh which is the stage between the grave and the day of judgement can come to us at ANY second and the angel of death is always ready to take our souls and when our time comes he will take our souls no matter where we are for we cannot hide.

So let us act upon this reminder and do EVERYTHING to please Allah and refrain from anything that displeases him.
