Know Your Enemy Pt 2- Shaytaan is Always There !

Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated:

“I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say,” Shaytaan attends all your affairs, even your food. When a piece of food falls on the ground, a person should remove the dirt from it then eat it. He shouldn’t leave it for Shaytaan. After he finishes eating, he should lick his fingers. Reason being, no body knows in which place of his food the blessing is.”

Collected by Muslim (5243)

Benefits for this Topic:

1. Imam Al-Qurtubee (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “We learn from this speech that whenever a person intends to do an act, he should seek refuge from Shaytaan; then mention Allah’s name. Doing this will protect him against Shaytaan’s harm and whispers.[ Explanation for Saheeh Muslim]

2. Shaykh Muhammad Al-Ameen Al-Harraree Al-Ethiopee (may Allah preserve him) said, “This hadeeth reveals that the Son of Adam is always exposed to Shaytaan’s allurement and temptation. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,” Verily Shaytaan flows through man’s blood,”

Therefore no matter how pious a Muslim is, he mustn’t be neglectful of Shaytaan’s misleading bait. Perhaps the person will begin by abandoning this etiquette: not placing an importance to it. Then he’ll progress to other acts that are more damaging. If a person doesn’t attach real importance to this etiquette, he’ll fall prey to Shaytaan’s deception and misguidance; bit by bit. We ask Allah to protect us from Shaytaan.

“When a piece of food falls on the ground, a person should remove the dirt from it…” means that when the food falls on the ground pick it up and remove the dirt.

“He shouldn’t leave it for Shaytaan…” means that if you leave it for Shaytaan and don’t pick it up, he becomes able to place his hands on it. If a person disregards that piece of food and forgets Allah’s rights, he has obeyed Shaytaan. Hence the food on the ground now suits his enemy. [Explanation for Saheeh Muslim vol 21 page 182]
