Good evening brother and sisters.

I've recently started to look into converting to Islam.

I live in the UK and was wondering if anyone could recommend an English translation of the Qur'an? I understand that some translations are better than others, and also nothing will ever be "as good" (for lack of a better word) as it is in Arabic.

Feel free to post links from various websites. Purchasing off the internet isn't a problem.

Thank you, take care my friends.

This site: http://quran.com/
has 7 different english translations. You just need to check/tick every boxes on the left bar so you can read all 7 translations at the same time. Keep the vertical scroll at the bottom because the page will not load automatically especially for longer surahs.

Other good sites are:
http://www.quranexplorer.com/quran/
http://tanzil.net/ <--- this one has 14 different english translations, although you can only do one at a time
http://www.kalamullah.com/noble-quran.html <-- audio translations
http://www.quranenglish.com/tafheem_quran/ <-- translations with footnotes of explanations, this is great.

I am an American revert to Islam and I have acquired six different translations of the Quran into English. I like the Majestic Quran as being a version that is easy to read, but I like the Gracious Quran (referenced in the attached link) even better as having a more thorough interpretation of the meaning of the Arabic into English. The Noble Quran has a similar interpretive approach as the Gracious Quran, but I find the style in the Noble Quran of using the Arabic word with an explanation in parenthesis as distracting. The style in the Gracious is to include the explanatory part in single quotes. I recommend for an English speaking Muslim to use the Gracious Quran for his personal study.
