Peace,

When I reverted the best source of information I found was through free booklets at the local Islamic Center. If there is one near you try that. You can find the closest one to you with a google search simply type in Islamic Center (Your city)

You can read an english translation of the Qur'an without purifying yourself first because it is a translation, it is not the actual words of God, it is a translation of the arabic written by a man so no need to do wudu.

You can find lots of material for new muslims on the following link. www kalamullah.com/new-muslims. html

Peace, harmony,

A really good book is, "Islam beliefs and teachings" by Ghulam Sarwar.

One website says about this book:

This book presents Islam as a complete way of life, expressing clearly and concisely the basic beliefs, duties and teachings of Islam. An Ideal book for a new muslim or revert as well as for children.
I thoroughly recommend this book to you. Unfortunately it's not available to read online, but can be purchased for about £5.00 from many websites.

Sister,

there is a huge islamic shop in Green Street, just by the upton park station, and they have a wide range of Islamic books; i'm sure you'd be able to find many books there on the basics of islam and intermediary teachings too; just ask the book department adviser/helper who is there to assist people, and he'll reccomend some good one's ...
