The Sad Reality

DID YOU KNOW...

Since 9/11, over 1900 Muslims have been arrested on terrorism charges in the UK. Most have been released, a few have been charged and are currently awaiting trial, while only a handful have actually been convicted of any terrorism offenses.

DID YOU KNOW...

For every arrest and detention, a home has been raided and ravaged and a family has suffered the loss of a loved one, a breadwinner, a dear husband. a much loved son. These are homes where life will never be the same.

DID YOU KNOW...

For many of these families, daily tasks have become difficult, they are struggling to make ends meet and transport to visit their loved ones is infrequent. On top of this, their friends have disowned them, their Mosques have abandoned them, and their communities have shunned them. They are lonely, vulnerable, and desperately in need of help. Your help.

Allah Says,

“The Believers, men and women, are protectors one of another: they enjoin what is just, and forbid what is evil: they observe regular prayers, practise regular charity, and obey Allah and His Messenger. On them will Allah pour His mercy: for Allah is Exalted in power, Wise.” (9.71)

DID YOU KNOW...

So now what? How will we deal with this verse, how will we take pride in the hadith of the Messenger, and yet not come to the aid of these people?

“Allâh supports His slave as long as the slave is supportive of his brother…” [Muslim]

A beacon of light for the darkness in the lives of these people has emerged at the hands of HHUGS. HHUGS is a registered charity that was setup in September 2004 and provides practical support and advice to households devastated by the arrest of a family member under UK anti-terror legislation.

What Services Do HHUGS Provide?

• Emotional support
• Childcare
• Transporting families to prison visits
• Media advice and support
• Food vouchers
• Driving lessons
• Educational and vocational courses
• Arranging professional/specialist help and assistance
• Arranging trips, outings and parties for the families of the detainees
• Gifts on special occasions such as Eid
• Financial grants

HHUGS launching in the North

HHUGS has successfully aided families in the South of England for close to a decade, and now we are launching in West Yorkshire. If you want to help, and in tur fulfil your fundamental Islamic responsibility in the North as per the words of the Messenger of Allah, (PBuH) who said,

"A Muslim is the brother of another Muslim. He does not oppress him, nor does he leave him at the mercy of others." (Sahih Muslim)
