Keep in mind I am a history nerd and not a math geek, but here goes my attempt:

48-x+3+4/2=22

48-x+7/2=22

48+7-x/2=22

55-x/2=22

55-x=22x2

55-x=44

55-11=44

x=11

I get 15.

I believe King of Nines just had one little error by dividing the entire left side by 2. I don't think the 4 should be included in that, but I could be wrong. Give this a try:

48-x+3
______ + 4 = 22
2

Yes, X=15

22-4 = 18

18x2 = 36

36-3 = 33

33-48 = (-) 15

Result : X = 15

Simple, I used reversal.

Here the question
"A bus was traveling with 48 passengers, after some while the bus reached a stop and x passengers got off and 3 passengers got on abroad. When the bus reached another stop, half the passengers got off and 4 got on. There are now 22 passengers. Solve x."

And how to solve ? Start from the last.
(There are now 22 passengers) The last passengers were 22
(4 got on) 22-4 = 18
(half the passengers got off) 18 x 2 = 36
(3 passengers got on abroad) 36-3 = 33
(x passengers got off ) The passengers were 33 + X
(A bus was traveling with 48 passengers) 33 + X = 48 ===> 48 - 33 = 15

Bah, I didn't even think of doing it in reverse.

But again, that is why I am a history nerd and not a math nerd. ;D

Me too. My high school teachers put me in social science major because i was very bad in math.

But bro, if you ever learn accountancy you would familiar with reverse counting. :D

One reason I chose history is because only one math class was required to complete that major. I took a basic level algebra class in my freshman year so I already had the required class.
