Lessons from Quraan – Do not waste your good deeds

Filed under: Dhikrullah Reminder — Tags: deeds, sin

“Would one of you like to have a garden of palm trees and grapevines underneath which rivers flow in which he has from every fruit? But he is afflicted with old age and has weak offspring, and it is hit by a whirlwind containing fire and is burned. Thus does Allah make clear to you [His] verses that you might give thought.” [Baqarah 2:266]

  • This ayah is in regard to someone who performs good righteous action at first and then later follows it with evil which annuls his good deeds.
  • Ibn `Abbas and said that `Umar bin Al-Khattab asked the Companions of the Messenger of Allaah about this ayah. They said, “Allah knows best.” `Umar became angry and said, “Say we know or we do not know.” Ibn `Abbas said, “O Leader of the Faithful! I have an opinion about it.” `Umar said, “O my nephew! Say your opinion and do not belittle yourself.” Ibn `Abbas said, “This is an example set for a deed.” `Umar said, “What type of deed” Ibn `Abbas said, “For a wealthy man who works in Allah’s pleasure and then Allah sends Shaytan to him, and he works in disobedience, until he annuls his good works.” [Bukhari]
  • This is the condition of the disbeliever on the Day of Resurrection when he returns to Allah, for he will not have any good deeds to provide an excuse – or refuge – for him, just as the man in the parable had no strength to replant the garden. The disbeliever will not find anything to resort to for help, just as the offspring of the man in the parable did not provide him with help. So he will be deprived of his reward when he most needs it, just as the man in the parable was deprived of Allah’s garden when he most needed it, when he became old and his offspring weak
  • Do not underestimate sin even if it is small, we should never see any sin as insignificant. Abdullah ibn Masood said: “The believer sees his sins as if he is sitting at the foot of a mountain fearing that it might fall on him, while the sinner sees his sins as a fly that lands on his nose, he just waves it away.”
  • We should try to remain steadfast on the religion and continue to strive to do good deeds right until our last breath. The Prophet (salAllaahu alayhi wa salam) made dua’aa to Allaah to keep him firm on the religion. The Prophet (salAllaahu alayhi wa salam) said: “All the hearts of the offspring of Aadam are between two fingers of Ar-Rehman’s Fingers, as one heart. He turns it (in any direction) as He wills. Then Allaah’s Messenger said, “O Allaah! The Turner of the hearts, turn our heart towards Your obedience.” [Muslim]
  • It is from amongst the signs of the Day of Judgement that a man will sleep as a Muslim but wake up a kaafir. The Prophet (salAllaahu alayhi wa salam) said: “Hasten in performing good deeds before the time comes when trials would be as dark as nights; a man would wake up a Muslim and go to sleep a disbeliever, and go to sleep as a Muslim and wake up a disbeliever[Muslim]
  • The best deeds we can do are those that are constant, even if they are small. The Prophet (salAllaahu alayhi wa salam) said: “The most beloved deed to Allah’s is the most regular and constant even though it were little” [Bukhari]

i think this is so important to remember... no matter who you are... we also do things at holidays time through work for familes that need help but never during the rest of the year and i think thats a shame because ... people need help all during the year....
