Ten days ago, on January 11 (the 10th anniversary of the opening of the "war on terror" prison at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba), the "Close Guantánamo" campaign was launched, with a mission statement signed by Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, Chief of Staff to former Secretary of State Colin Powell; the Hon. John J. Gibbons, former Chief Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit; Gen. David M. Brahms (Ret.); Rear Adm. Donald J. Guter (Ret.); Rear Adm. John D. Hutson (Ret.); Col. Morris Davis, former chief prosecutor for the Military Commissions at Guantánamo; the Center for Constitutional Rights; Human Rights First; Human Rights Watch; attorneys for the Guantánamo prisoners, and journalists.​


We are currently preparing new material for the campaign, and will be making available stories of the prisoners, as related by their attorneys, or in some cases, as described in their own words, to present the human face of Guantánamo. This, we are sure, will help to explain why it is essential that the prison is closed, and why it remains unforgivable that 89 of the remaining 171 prisoners, who have been cleared for release, are still held.​
For now, however, we need your help to secure another 20,000 signatures on the Close Guantánamo Now! petition on the White House's "We the People" website by Feb. 6, to receive a response from President Obama, and to show that it is unacceptable that the closure of Guantánamo has become a victim of political maneuvering.​

someone asked if there is any gurantee signatures will close down the Guantanamo . I don't think there is any gurantee of that but I hope it will create a pressure on US Govt .

At least , it will make people all over the world to do something against the injustice . What else ordinary people can do for the oppressed one except dua , sign the petition and may be give donation ?

remember the Babar Ahmed appeal? we got well over the required 100,000 sigs in the e-petition and they didn't even care. I saw the parliamentary debate and it was a joke...

Because people are stupid and gullible.

The blacks will vote for him because "he's one of them".

The Communists and socialists will vote for him because "he's one of them".

The Republicans are too divided to present a united front. They won't present a strong enough candidate in my opinion.

All Obama has to do is suck enough white voters in like he did last time and he's back for four more years.

Ehh, I suppose you could say that for some... But remember, politics nowadays is usually just a matter of choosing the lesser of two evils. I'd vote for Obama any day over Gingrich.
 
Not as if anyone who'd replace him would be any better, kinda gave up hope in politicians a long time ago :hmm:

This is why I don't vote anymore. The elections are useless anyway. They only exist to give the public the illusion of democracy. The results are rigged.

Obama's foreign policy objectives are very dangerous. You should conduct a research on Zbigniew Brzezinski.

I view the democrats and the republicans as Coco Cola and Pepsi. Different brands but offer the same taste. Sure, some may argue Coco Cola is sweeter than Pepsi while Pepsi is more fizzier than Coco Cola, but the end result is the same. They never quench your thirst.
