I have a very quick question for the community here, and I'd appreciate some answers. You can respond however you see fit, with one word or several pages.

Do you guys think that most people, irrespective of their religion, beliefs, or background, are essentially good people? If you feel like the word "good" requires defining, feel free to do so before your response.

with the exception of a handful of people whom we exchange with. No one knows who anyone is.. People can be serial murderers or CIA agents or child molesters or trolls, spam bots etc. (on or off screen) Longevity on a forum & perhaps exchange back and forth might give insight to character but certainly not a factor in determining good or bad.. Sometimes you can live with your partner for 30 years and they end up killing you.. No one really knows anyone let alone split open their chest to know what's inside.
Also Allah swt is best judge of character... at the end of the day if you learn something and make a good friendship with someone it will have been worth it but as Umar Ibn Ilkhtaab (RA) said- ''If Allah wants for people ill, he gives them debates and takes away from them actions''
so I suppose that's where we're!

Yes.
Social creatures are essentially in majority good or else they wouldn't be social.
Upbringing and experiences forge. Desperation drives and simplicity fools.
Most people are good or try to be good according to what they think is good.

Assalamu-alaikum,

From an islamic mind-set, 'good' people can be categorised into 2:

1. Disbelievers who are 'good' (in their actions towards others).
2. Believers who are 'good'.

At the end of the day, the precondition for our good deeds being rewarded - is imaan.
This is all that really matters.

Surah Al-Kahf [18:103-105, translation]:

Say, [O Muhammad], "Shall we [believers] inform you of the greatest losers as to [their] deeds?
[They are] those whose effort is lost in worldly life, while they think that they are doing well in work."

Those are the ones who disbelieve in the verses of their Lord and in [their] meeting Him, so their deeds have become worthless; and We will not assign to them on the Day of Resurrection any importance.

In other words simply being 'good'...... is not good enough!

#Goodness without Belief - holds absolutely no value. #
