I am interested to know who built it as well

I just did a very quick search now and found many answers. Some say its Adam, some says Angels. Some others said it was the son of Noah (Sam Ibn Noah)

It was built by Prophet Solomon (pbuh) and later destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar II. Second time it was built by Cyrus of Persia and it stood until the time of Jesus (pbuh). After that it was destroyed by Romans.

Although it was destroyed but parts of structure and foundation was there to which Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) believed to be traveled to for Miraj.
