Hate crimes against Muslims in the UK are on the rise which mainly target women, according to new figures from a human rights organization.
The brutal and humiliating assaults include having Hijabs ripped off, being urinated on or having feces rubbed in their faces or put through their letterboxes.

Anti-Muslim hate crimes reach boiling point in UK
Amid growing attacks on their worship places and religious leaders, British Muslims are calling for more robust efforts to fight rising hate crimes against their minority.
The attacks included assaults on imams and mosque staff, including petrol bombings and bricks thrown through windows, pigs’ heads being fixed prominently to entrances and minarets, vandalism and abusive messages.
“Anti-Muslim bigotry is very real. It does exist,” said Ghaffar Hussain of the counter-extremism think-tank Quilliam.
Taji Mustafa, spokesman for Hizb ut-Tahrir in Britain, blames the British government for the rising anti-Muslim hatred.
“Xenophobic attacks on Muslims have increased under successive governments,” he said.
“In a manipulative alliance with some sections of the media, they have demonized Islam as part of their foreign policy propaganda.”

Islamophobia and hate crimes increasing in Europe
Today's seminal Amnesty International report on systematic and intensifying discrimination against Muslims in Europe makes sobering reading. Based on extensive field research focusing on five countries –
Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland – the 100-page plus report documents an alarming increase in public fear and suspicion toward Muslims; as well as a disturbing acceleration of state practices that marginalise Muslims
The report focuses on the impact of new legislation and policies restricting the wearing of religious and cultural symbols. "Muslims, and especially Muslim women, can be discriminated against in access to employment and at work simply because they wear specific forms of dress," notes the report.Similarly, various types of bans on religious symbols or dress in schools mean that Muslim pupils or students have been excluded from mainstream educational institutions. Anti-Muslim stereotypes and prejudices against religious and cultural practices have curtailed or prevented the establishment of places of worship, further excluding communities from public life.
Although the report's case studies do not include Britain, other studies of recent years confirm that the country is very much part of this trend. Successive reports over the last decade by a range of agencies – from the Runnymede Trust's Commission on British Muslims and Islamophobia in 2004, to the Open Society Institute in 2005 as well as the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights in 2009, and the European Muslim Research Centre in 2010 – prove clearly that discrimination against British Muslims across education, employment, criminal justice and media discourses. They also show hate crimes are at record levels.

Hate Crimes Against U.S. Muslims On The Rise
Muslims may make up fewer than one percent of the U.S. population but they were nearly 13 percent of victims of religious-based hate crimes in 2010, "The Nation" magazine reports (July 2nd).
"These crimes include intimidation, burglary, arson, vandalism, and aggravated assault," writes author Laila Lalami, a professor at the University of California, Riverside. What's more, "they target not just Muslims but also people who are mistaken for Muslims---Sikh men, for instance."
"It's fair to say that we have in America today two systems of citizenship: one for Muslims and one for non-Muslims," Lalami says. "Muslim citizens live under a cloud of suspicion, no matter what they do, and no matter what they say."
some of the anti-Muslim hatred is being stoked by Federal and local law enforcement agencies. Last September, "Wired" broke the story that the FBI makes wild charges about Muslims to the counterterrorism agents it trains. Bayoumi accuses the FBI of spreading the line that "mainstream American Muslims are probably terrorist sympathizers, that the Prophet Muhammad was a "cult leader' and that the religiously mandated practice of giving charity in Islam is no more than a "funding mechanism for combat.'"
Bayoumi points out that the NYPD as part of its training screened "The Third Jihad," a film that claims "the true agenda of much of Islam in America" is "a strategy to infiltrate and dominate" the country.
One film that Shaheen scores is " Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against The West," brought out in 2005 by the Clarion Fund, a pro-Israel nonprofit organization. "Steeped in hatred, the film's...frighteningly Islamophobic message...draws parallels between Islam and Nazism." Clarion persuaded major dailies to distribute 28 million DVD copies to their readers without charge, he writes in "The Nation's" July 2nd issue.
Bayoumi warns that "anti-Muslim attitudes are not merely absorbed by law enforcement and the military or reflected on the airwaves and in the words of our politicians. Rather, the idea that American Muslims are to be feared or loathed or excluded from the United States is being actively promoted."

Hostility to Muslims greater in Sydney than Melbourne
The targets of racism in Australia have also changed — the Indian community is now most often singled out rather than the past focus on people of east Asian descent, despite official attempts in recent years to calm anger over a spate of attacks on Indian students.
The results show 29 per cent of Sydneysiders hold a negative view of Muslims, compared with 15 per cent in Melbourne.

Soldiers talk of killing Muslims after Sydney protests
There has been calm on the streets since the riot by Muslim protestors in Sydney almost two weeks ago, but it has not stopped inflammatory messages being sent or recirculated in cyber space.
Today the Islamic Council of New South Wales will ask police and the Defence Force to investigate what it says are concerning comments made on social media by serving and former defence personnel.
One Facebook page contains references to using machine guns and a sniper rifle on Muslims who took part in the riot.

Defence silent on anti-Muslim rants
It's been a month since AM brought you concerns from senior members of the Muslim community about former or serving soldiers making threatening comments in social media.
Despite the comments referring to using weapons on Muslims who took part in the Sydney riot, the Defence Department is yet to explain to the Islamic Council of New South Wales, or to AM for that matter, what action if any it has taken.
The director of Australia's largest Muslim website says the Defence Department is being hypocritical and a 30 year veteran of the Army says it should have been dealt with much more quickly.

Muslims still a side dish in Australia's melting pot
Muslims still constitute a marginalised community. The 2011 Census data puts Muslim unemployment at 4.5 per cent. While this is better than the 2006 census figure of 5.9 per cent, it is nearly twice the 2011 national average of 2.7 per cent.
The average income level for Muslim households is substantially lower than the national average with more than 20 per cent of Muslim households live on a weekly income of $299 or less. That is 2.4 times higher than the national record: just over 8 per cent of households nationally.
Australian Muslims are three times less likely to own their dwelling than non-Muslims and twice as likely to be renting.
These figures point to an obvious imbalance. The problem, as it turns out, is that this imbalance is persistent. The emerging socio-economic picture from the 2011 Census reproduces the same gap between Muslims and the rest of the country evident in previous census figures.
In addition to this, Muslims have almost no political representation at the top.

The Rise of Islamophobia in ‘White Australia’

Islamophobia in Australia is not something suddenly appeared over the horizon because of the weather. To the contrary, racism against Muslims has always been part of Australia’s psyche. Whether it is against neighbouring Indonesia, Malaysia or Muslim Australians; the pall of racism is permanently hovering over Australia. Government policies, including the criminal war against Iraq and the introduction of the so-called “anti-terrorism” laws have legitimised racism against Arab and Muslim Australians.
Islamophobia is encouraged by the Howard-Bush claims that they are engaged in a “war of civilizations” against Muslims. Islamophobia is growing rapidly in Australia in that it is now not uncommon to see white male Australians abusing Muslim women (wearing the Hijab or headscarf) in buses, on beaches and on the streets of Australia’s big cities. “Aussie” males are real machismos when it comes to women. It should be noted that insulting or harassing Muslim women wearing the hijab is not an offence in Australia, as this considered part of the Bush-Howard mission of “liberating” Muslim women.
Australia has no Bill of Rights and no federal Religious Freedom Act. Only Queensland and Victoria have recently extended the anti-discrimination laws to cover religious vilification, and this has strong opposition from the Christian parties. In all other Australian states racism is part of free speech, but criticising the Government complicity in war crimes in Iraq is not. Anti-Muslims hatred and racism are central to the Government policies in “multicultural” Australia.
Australia’s shallow “multiculturalism” produces ‘an ethnicised Muslim identity’ subjected to racism and discrimination in education, at work and in public. It consciously and deliberately enforces the “Others” feeling in the general community, and creates a mentality of superiority among ‘White Australians’. It requires subordination of those who are from ethnic minorities. Shallow “multiculturalism” is designed to marginalise ethnic groups and isolates them into ghettoised communities. This form of institutionalise racism reinforces the disadvantage already experienced by members of the Muslim Community, and restrict their integration in the wider Australian community. At the same time, Anglo-Saxon values are presented as a unique paradigm applicable to the whole community, if not the world at large.
