In a way it is, but it can be rewarding as well. By that I mean people are able to buy stuff at a relatively cheap prize.

no, I have worked retail most of my life. It is pathetic, and people get ripped off. They are led to believe they are getting some great deal, and the only ones who benefit from this are the same people who trick them in the first place, that's the truth. What is even more pathetic is that it falls on the day after people gorge themselves sick, celebrating the genocide of Indigenous peoples! +o(

One of the things I have come to hate is consumerism. That's what black friday is about. Oh yeah, people also get trampled over a stupid sale. Meh.

To be fair, the whole holiday season is all about consumerism and commercialism. One reason I can't and don't get into the holiday spirit...

Totally. All American Holidays are about business, before one holiday is over the next one is on the shelves.

which is worse, Westerners going nuts on Christmas or Muslims wasting food in Ramadhan?

They are both just as bad. The Ramadan feasts are comparable to what goes on in thanksgiving as far as the food is concerned. However we're talking of commercialism & consumerism in America. Black friday only happens here.

If you want to get into what muslims are doing, we can. Everyone is participating in this, muslims are no exception, that's for sure. There's a thread going on already regarding paris hilton opening shops in Makkah. ;)

What is going on in America and the rest of the Western World what is going is going on with this Society with the lack of morality the stealing the crime the hate the lack of compassion the rudeness the out of controlness the anger and the anarchy I am not saying Americans are all bad or all rude or commit crimes but I feel that Americans don't trust or like each other even Muslims tell me from other Nations that Americans are rude people when he went to the Middle East Muslims were very friendly nice they even offered him to stay in their home/house as a guest I think Islam teaches people too have good manners. Yes I know Muslims are not perfect we are only human but Secular Society/Godless Society does not teach caring for others Darwinism rejected helping others Atheism offers no hope for the future one may disagree with my Im just giving my opinion.

I guess that's true, but nowadays it seems as though all holidays are more toward business. For example, during the month of Ramadan, people tend to buy more stuff and business owners make profit from it. You guys may not necessarily agree with me on this.

I am not American and I have no desire to live in America. However, I have travelled very widely and this is not my experience of American people at all. (Or certainly no more than any other culture.) America has many large urban centres and friendliness does tend to diminish in any large city.

The places which I have found least friendly have tended to be areas where there is something else going on to distort society. For instance, in Honduras I felt a constant sense of background danger no matter where I went. (Honduras is saturated with weapons after many years of civil war.)

One culture I had a previous negative image of - South Africa - turned out to be hugely more polite and welcoming than I expected. This was post-apartheid.

The individual city I found least welcoming was Jerusalem - from all sides. I attributed this to the situation people find themselves in, not their personal character.

I am disgusted. People have no manners at all. Well, we live in a consumer society where people believe that stuff makes you happy. * shaking my head*

Americans don't waste food on Thanksgiving, they have leftovers. my point is that we shouldn't gloat so much. yes, black Friday IS bizarre, but black Friday and cyber Monday just might be the absolute best deals you'll EVER get in America. not an excuse for lunacy, but Americans are drugged 7 ways come Sunday. i rather feel sorry for them.

I hope that people will remember the true values in life, the ones money can't buy.

Perhaps the present difficult financial climate will help people to see past their wealth and possessions and search again for a deeper meaning in life ...

I thought it was just us Indians that went crazy for special prices.....

who is gloating? Have you attended Thanksgiving dinners and cleaned up after? This is one of the most wasteful countries as far as I know! People throw away food here daily, left and right. Just go to a restaurant business, or the grocery stores. Poor folks go dumpster diving at grocery stores at night and get perfect un rotted food to eat from the dumpster. Whole loaves of bread in the trash, boxes full of produce etc. In restaurants whole cooked chickens and steaks thrown out cuz they are not allowed to save food for the next day by law... talk about wasting food.

America is the largest consumer, full stop.

there isn't any gloating going on, We're just being real is all...

As I said before, Yes the fox needs to look at it's own tail, I do not disagree with this. Muslims have their own issues and we should focus on our own. That can't be denied. American Muslims participate in this mass consumption also :D not to mention the watered down Islam that is followed for the most part here, let's not open that can of worms ...

I refer you to Qur'an 3:14

Sahih International
Beautified for people is the love of that which they desire - of women and sons, heaped-up sums of gold and silver, fine branded horses, and cattle and tilled land. That is the enjoyment of worldly life, but Allah has with Him the best return.

As for Americans being rude, well, rude people are everywhere. You cannot really say that one group is better than another...
