Assalam Alaikum Brothers And sisters & Ramadan Mubarak

I joined this site to help me become a better muslim.

Although i was born into a muslim family, our family didnt practice islam. So sadly i dont know how to pray.

I hated my religion, because of the fact that my mother used to 'lie' to me by using Islam. It made me think it was oppressing women, while mine were allowed to do everything. I announced to my family that i had become an athiest.
After a really bad relationship, i turned to Islam, as it was the only thing that offered support, and Thanks to all the brothers and sisters that post on Youtube, and the internet the true islam. I have never looked back. I realised my mum was just trying to force culture on me rather than religion, and now that ive embraced my religion, i feel more liberated.

I find it hard to learn namaz as in the pronounciation and what to say at what time.

My friend suggested i download the namaz recitation for each prayer and play those on a speaker device and perform my namaz like that. Not only can i listen to the prayer being said correctly, i have more chance in being able to pronounce it properly and learn it faster. Like they do at Jummah. Where one man leads everyone through prayer. But my other friend said this is haram and namaz is only permitted if i say the prayer rather than it being said for me.

If it is haram, can anyone help me by giving tips on learning namaz.

Wa Alaykum Assalam sister Nilufar,

Welcome to the forum. I am very glad that you found Islam, and all praise is for Allah the Most Exalted.

It is also very good that you are learning how to pray, which is a pillar of Islam and very important. Keep trying and learn step by step, and you will get there In sha Allah.

There are a number of online resources for people who are learning how to pray. You can watch the prayer from start to finish, and also listen to what is recited during each part of the prayer. Here are a couple but they might not be perfect. You can use them to get a basic idea.

Try to get in touch with Muslims around you who can teach you. The things you find online might differ slightly so it's good to have someone help and guide you from the beginning. Also try searching for other threads in this section of the forum (where I have moved your thread) or have a look at the Prayer section of the forum, where you might find some more helpful tips :ia:.
