I've enjoyed reading this forum and a few others:Ummah.com
gawaher.com
islamicity.com
sunniforum.com
shiachat.com
***********

Though I haven't fully understood the animosity between Sunnis and Shias. And I don't know the difference between the different schools of thought within Sunni Islam. And I haven't found is any discussion forums on Sufism. And most of the Sufi websites I've found seem to deviate away from Islam.

I have not been to the masjid yet. I am going to call my local masjid today and ask about the new muslims classes that they have. I'm still scared to go.

JazakAllah Khayr for telling me

Sister,Internet is a very bad place to learn about Islam.Use it as stepping stone but never take everything from it in full.My recommendation would be you should start learning from books and they could be e-books.Best option could be studying under a teacher which unfortunately is not available for everyone.

However,if I could suggest some than here are a few:

http://kalamullah.com/
http://www.islamhouse.com/
http://www.allahsword.com/

salam sister,

if you want some clarification on sufism, please check out this site http://www.orthodoxislam.org/

Actually sister, misconceptions and deviations exists in all sects sunni, shia, sufi etc. so it is better you ask a scholar about methodology cause only a scholar can give the best answer on methodology. please follow qibla.com or http://www.dar-alifta.org/FatwaRequest.aspx to post any questions you have in mind.

Thanks everyone for all the links! :) I've become aware (quickly :hmm: ) on how not to rely on the internet for solid information. I did call the masjid today and well....they don't answer the phone, lol. A recording came on that says "assalamu alaikum, blahblahblahstrongaccentblahblahblah, press 4 for the Imam, 5 for brother Hakim, press 6 for sister rashida, blahblahblah, have a nice day."

:salam:

I have heard of the 'Sisters Cafe' that is held in Birmingham. Perhaps you can contact them in shaa Allah:

If you have recently accepted Islam or know someone who recently did, you might be interested in learning about some programs that we run for new muslims in Birmingham.

The Sisters' Cafe: this is run about once a week on Saturdays and it's a place to socialise with other muslims. Ladies only (children welcome). What we hhave to offer: emotional and practical support for new reverts, help with learning the deen (prayers, wudhu, fasting, reading Qur'an....) and one on one support and follow up to make sure new reverts always have someone to turn to.

Saturday 1-3pm
Women only, children welcome
Muslim Students' House Masjid, 517 Moseley Rd, balsall Heath, b12 9bx (upstairs hall)

New Muslims Outreach Program: a new program designed to reach out to the newest members of our community and offering tailored assistance to new reverts (brothers and sisters)

There are also a lot more available from the various mosques in the city. Simply contact your local mosque.

For more information or if you have any question at all you can email me: jameela_umyousef@rocketmail.com
I can help with finding your local mosque, prayer timetables and anything else really.

May Allah make you strong on the path of Islam. Insha'Allah see you soon...

Wassalam

Jameela

I am not from the UK, so please accept my apologies if the above info. is not exactly as stated.

I also agree that internet forums are not the first avenue of acquiring islamic knowledge, as it carries the risk of disinformation and confusion, esp for someone who is new to the deen.

You will also find that there are hundreds of different speakers that you can listen to on-line.
I suggest that you listen to a few good and reputable scholars rather than following anyone and everyone (as it is not always easy to know what a speakers background is).
The 2 scholars that i would highly recommend are: Mufti Ismail Menk and Brother Nouman Ali Khan. In shaa Allah, you will obtain much benefit from listening to their talks.

May Allah guide you in all that comes your way. Ameen

Please let us know if you reach any success on this and if we can assist you in any other ways in shaa Allah.
