halal/haram question about sports...

This may seem like a silly question but I was curious...Is it ok to be a fan of a team in any sport that uses the word "devil" as their mascot?? They are not ACTUALLY cheering for the devil but it just seems weird to me that people do this...that schools have their team named after the devil...The word devil seems to have been watered down a lot...poked fun at like it's not a real threat...etc.

Some ulama in Malaysia have issued fatwa, haram to use Manchested United jersey due to devil as their mascot.
