Oh Joy!

Oh joy!
That bursts upon the sky with coloured wings
To soar and swoop and fly to brighter things
After the night had wept its bitter sighs
After Shaitan had smiled convincing lies
I called upon my Lord about my grief
That crept upon my soul, a master thief
And He with Shining Kisses on my heart
Drew back the dark and Made the rainclouds part.
Oh joy!
That bursts upon the sky with coloured wings
To soar and swoop and fly to brighter things...

I Cry To You

I cry to You, my Lord, of my pain,
My loneliness,
My fears.

And You Listen and remind me of my prayer:

To be close to You,
Be Loved by You,
To sail by the torments of the Day
We stand
Stripped naked with our shame
Before great crowds
Alone
With You.

And the pain seeps away
What is pain?
And I sense the Angels gathering
Witnessing
Inaudibly near...

Oh! I am not alone!
You Enfold me in Your Care.

Vision

I imagine you, my husband:
The shape of you, your heart, your silent ruh
Watching me awaken in the early morning light
With tenderness
As if I were so precious
That you should care so deeply
That each soft inhalation of my life
Should stitch itself to yours.

My murid, my murshid...
Because does not God Intend us,
Send us,
Internexing in each other's lives
To Teach us through each jagged moment,
Each silken time drop
The lessons we must learn
Must earn
To find His Hidden Face?

I imagine you:
Loving me because He Loves me
In my blatant imperfection
Finding something shining in His Shade
That made
You want to lace your hand
With mine.

Who?

Who Calls the beauty into light?
Who Weaves the stars into the night?
Who Puts the waking dreams to flight?
Who Weighs the Balance, wrong and right?

Who Made the waves in cosmic seas?
Who Brings the potent to their knees?
Who Does whatever He May Please?
Who is the Cure for all dis-ease?

Who Blows the soul that gives us life?
Who Gifts us growth disguised as strife?
To Whom do we belong, should pray?
To Whom shall we return One Day?

Who Rips the webbing from our eyes?
Who Smites the heart encased by flies?
Who Knows the Truth our Selves despise
When stripped of Self-deceptive lies?

Who Clothes with Love the trembling Self?
Who Rains Forgiveness from Himself?
Who pours the joys of worlds Unseen
With Kindness, for His slaves, now clean?

Oh!

Who Sings creation into sight?
Who Sets its dance in patterns bright?
Who Folds it up when He Deems right?
Who Owns all power, Who has this might?

Assalaamu alaikum,

Thank you for your kind words. I hope you may like the following poems.

May Allah, the Gentle, the Loving, Help us to see the warmth in the cold moments of our lives.

Don't cry, my dear

Don't cry, my dear, in silent tears
You're not alone, have never been.
He's always near, though we don't know
All things He Knows, and have been Seen.

He Sends us teachers when we need
And angels when we cry in pain
The burdens seem too much to bear
Unless we Call on Him by Name.

He Has the keys to every heart
And only He can Open locks
But we must humbly ask His Help
For nothing else can Heal our blocks.

This life is but a passing through
A time to grow, a journey to
A Real Place, A Real Life
Where pure hearts' longing dreams come true.

Sadness

When sadness throws its silent cloak
When tears well up inside your throat
When whispers in your mind and ears
Confirm your inner child's fears
Then is the time to call the Light
To clear the pain that blinds your sight
Then is the time to stand and pray
And chase the evil thoughts away.

War and Healing

Where are the scholars, leaders, lovers?
Where are the poets, builders, farmers?
Where are the loving fathers, brothers?
Where are the kindly cousins, mothers?

So many unfilled spaces, scenes
So many stillborn hopes and dreams
So many flowers picked too soon
To smell the fragrance of their blooms.

Just rows and rows of quiet mounds
And living hearts with broken sounds,
Where smiles fail to touch the eyes
And wrecked hands crush the young like flies,
Where shattered fathers spatter sons
With words and blows like drunken guns,
Where mothers weep on daughters' souls
Like jagged flutes with missing holes,
Where people live in mirrored rooms
That blind them to each other's tunes,
And deafen them to trust's soft hands
That try to slip like desert sands
Into the cracks where love might gain
A foothold to assuage the pain
That shouts from hearts that fear self-blame
That whimper tears of molten shame...

Come, listen to God's Message now
And He Will gently Tell you how
To mute the whispers grinning hate,
To take the crushing dark-filled weight,
And turn it into triumph bright
With multi-layered zones of Light
That break the mirrors blocking sight
And let God's Air flow where it might,
To cleanse and purify the one
Who seeks the warmth of Allah's Sun.

Real Things?

Once upon a slumber, in the middle of a dream,
My mind awoke and realized that life's not what it seems.
My heart was filled with happiness, my soul stretched out its wings...!
But then I woke and went to sleep, and dealt with real things.

In the realm of dreams...

You look into my eyes and find me fair,
You want to hug my imperfections close,
My tears are honoured for their liquid pain,
My smiles light rainbows in your heart again.

In the realm of dreams...

We are not old, for aging's just a test,
For flux and change are requisite for growth;
We're waiting to break free when this life's done,
Like children seeing meadows, want to run.

In the realm of dreams...

I've met you in the airports of this life,
I've glimpsed you weaving in and out of crowds,
I've felt the sand that seeks our questing feet,
I've smelt the surging seas of when we'll meet.

In the realm of Dreams...

We die a little death and wake refreshed
From sipping fountains pure in hidden Worlds,
From being Held in Quiet, Loving Light...
Which we forget when day invades the night.

***

The quiet time before the dawn awakes
Is time to pray and breathe away my pride.
I humbly ask my Lord if I may find
Your kindly heart companion by my side.

But if He Judges better it for me
To walk this Path without your company...
Then I surrender to His Knowing Eyes,
A nursling filled with milk and sleepy sighs.

Your Love

When the painclouds gathered darkly,
When the ragewinds threatened Hell,
When the evil twists and whispers
Called and sucked me places fell,
I flung my hands out wide and wildly
Till I caught Your Rope so dear:
A safe escape from howling fiends
That threatened to engulf me here.

Your Love's a beacon, it’s my Light
Your Love's a guide, it’s my North Star
Your Love's a haven, it’s my Garden
For without You, I would fall far.

In the pits of desolation,
In the lonely plains of fear,
In the broken shards of trust's loss
Your Love is healing, pure and clear.

What would I do without Your Love?
Without Your Gentle Care so sweet?
Without the hope of a Tomorrow
Fresh with happiness replete?

I need You as the dormant sapling
Craves the wakening sun in spring
My sap runs strong, my buds unfurl…
Your Light Wakes all; my heart takes wing!

Aqeedah
(Islamic Creed)

But if the world rides on the back of a turtle-
Asked the child,
-What did the turtle stand on?
The man smiled:
Another turtle.
And under that?
Another turtle.
And under that?
He smiled
Kindly:
It’s turtles
All the way down...

But if the universe comes from a point
With no dimensions
(Nothing?)-
Asked the teen,
-Where did everything come from?
The woman smiled:
This universe explodes,
Slows,
Implodes,
And then
Explodes again
Like breaths breathing,
Out and in.
Yeah, but-
How did it start?
She smiled
Patiently:
It’s universes
All the way back...

Space is not. Time is not. No created things are.
But God. Is.
Must be.
Necessarily.
For all created things
Begin.
To exist
Creation must have had
A genesis
In One
With no beginning.
And no end.

Endlessly Complete,
God has no needs.
None.
Shadows cannot be without a light,
But light
Can exist without shadows.
God. Is.
Self-Sufficient.

The puzzle pieces do not fit!
Each crude attempt to render God is wrong.
So wrong.
Like children grabbing moonbeams come away
With empty hands,
We cannot find a likeness anywhere.
God. Is.
Dissimilar.

I take a cube,
Collapse it to a square,
A line,
A point.
Everything that seems to be can fold away.
In Reality, there are no multiplicities,
Just One.
Single.
God.

Life.
God. Is.
Alive.
No force, no motion, no matter
Just
Seamless
Immeasurable
Vibrant
Is-ness.

Knowledge.
That which is and was and will
That which isn’t, wasn’t, won’t
That which could and could not be,
Every strange variety
Of (im) possibility...
God. Knows.

Speech.
Manifesting what God Knows,
My existence is bespoken,
Bespeaks...
Every choice, every thought, every step
Through spoken forests flickering with life...
God Knows. And Speaks.

All that God Commands, is.
What?
Where?
When?
How?
The questions in my fleeting mind
Tilt
Like compasses towards the Truth:
As God.
Wills.

Power.
God Makes, Molds and Unmakes...
Moment by moment
The hologram “reality” I live
Is made substantial by the movement
Of God’s.
Will.

God.
Perceives.
In ways called
Seeing...
Hearing...
Because these are all we understand.
Can understand.
But these ways
Have nothing to do
With eyes
Or ears.

God Sees. And what God Sees, God Hears:
All sounds and tastes and shapes and dreams,
All thoughts and hues and scents and schemes...
All that could be, and cannot be,
All that might be, and will not be,
Intimately, limitlessly...
God.
Perceives.

God. Is.
I crumble to the floor.
I’m sure
That choices honouring my Lord
(The only offering I can give)

ARE DUE.

forgive me...
