Hi Watchman,

Welcome to the forum. To understand Islam try and spend time with Muslims if you can in the real world. Make friends with different Muslims from different backgrounds so you can get a full deeper picture of how we live and why we behave in a certain way.

If that's not possible you can spend as much time as you can on this board and God-willing we can try and give you a better understanding of Islam.

Belief in God:

Muslims believe in one, unique, incomparable God, Who has no son nor partner, and that none has the right to be worshipped but Him alone. He is the true God, and every other deity is false. He has the most magnificent names and sublime perfect attributes. No one shares His divinity, nor His attributes. In the Qur'aan, God describes Himself:

Say, "He is God, the One. God, to Whom the creatures turn for their needs. He begets not, nor was He begotten, and there is none like Him." (Qur'aan, 112:1-4)

No one has the right to be invoked, supplicated, prayed to, or shown any act of worship, but God alone. God alone is the Almighty, the Creator, the Sovereign, and the Sustainer of everything in the whole universe. He manages all affairs. He stands in need of none of His creatures, and all His creatures depend on Him for all that they need. He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing, and the All-Knowing. In a perfect manner, His knowledge encompasses all things, the open and the secret, and the public and the private. He knows what has happened, what will happen, and how it will happen. No affair occurs in the whole world except by His will. Whatever He wills is, and whatever He does not will is not and will never be. His will is above the will of all the creatures. He has power over all things, and He is able to do everything. He is the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, and the Most Beneficent.

In one of the sayings of the Prophet Muhammad , we are told that God is more merciful to His creatures than a mother to her child. [Narrated in Saheeh Muslim, #2754, and Saheeh Al-Bukhaaree, #5999]

God is far removed from injustice and tyranny. He is All-Wise in all of His actions and decrees. If someone wants something from God, he or she can ask God directly without asking anyone else to intercede with God for him or her. God is not Jesus, and Jesus is not God. [It was reported by the Associated Press, London, on June 25, 1984, that a majority of the Anglican bishops surveyed by a television program said, “Christians are not obliged to believe that Jesus Christ was God.” The poll was of 31 of England’s 39 bishops. The report further stated that 19 of the 31 bishops said it was sufficient to regard Jesus as “God’s supreme agent.” The poll was conducted by London Weekend Television’s weekly religious program, “Credo.”]

Even Jesus himself rejected this. God has said in the Qur'aan:

Indeed, they have disbelieved who have said, "God is the Messiah (Jesus), son of Mary." The Messiah said, "Children of Israel, worship God, my Lord and your Lord. Whoever associates partners in worship with God, then God has forbidden Paradise for him, and his home is the Fire (Hell). For the wrongdoers, [The wrongdoers include the polytheists] there will be no helpers." (Qur'aan, 5:72)

God is not a trinity. God has said in the Qur'aan:

Indeed, they disbelieve who say, "God is the third of three (in a trinity)," when there is no god but one God. If they desist not from what they say, truly, a painful punishment will befall the disbelievers among them. Would they not rather repent to God and ask His forgiveness? For God is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. The Messiah (Jesus), son of Mary, was no more than a messenger ... (Qur'aan, 5:73-75)

Islaam rejects that God rested on the seventh day of the creation, that He wrestled with one of His angels, that He is an envious plotter against mankind, or that He is incarnate in any human being. Islam also rejects the attribution of any human form to God. All of these are considered blasphemous. God is the Exalted. He is far removed from every imperfection. He never becomes weary. He does not become drowsy nor does he sleep.

The Arabic word Allaah means God (the one and only true God who created the whole universe). This word Allaah is a name for God, which is used by Arabic speakers, both Arab Muslims and Arab Christians. This word cannot be used to designate anything other than the one true God. The Arabic word Allaah occurs in the Qur'aan more than 2150 times. In Aramaic, a language related closely to Arabic and the language that Jesus habitually spoke, [NIV Compact Dictionary of the Bible, Douglas, p. 42.], God is also referred to as Allaah.

The same can be asked of Christianity. Does it benefit people? Why would islam be the fastest growing religion in the world? This is despite the media portraying Muslims as terrorists.

I see you are confused (if not totally ignorant) so I'll tell it to you from a different perspective.

Allah sent many prophets and among them 4 Books of Guides were given.

The Psalms gave praises for the Lord and blessings for our selves etc. Essentially about our relationship with Allah.

The Torah added to that. It introduced the mechanics of life, an action causing a reaction. Hence to do unto others what you would expect others to do to you.

The Bible added to that still, to forgive, turn the other cheek, (but not necessarily to forget and or allow abuse). But with that generational feuds may end.

The Quran laid grounds for living in a community. If we can practice what was taught incrementally by our Creator. Hence the final message for mankind.

Imagine how the Jewish clergy would have lost power had they followed Jesus.. needless to say about the Christian clergy too.

There is only one God. His name is Allah. Like the Bible (not the ones we have now) that superceded the Torah, the Quran superceded the Bible.

Welcome to the forum, watchmen.

It tell us the purpose of our existence, why we are here, tells us who our Creator is, and gives us untampered guidance and instructions on how our Creator wants us to live and worship Him, in order that we can attain peace within ourselves, in communities, and also in order to help us achieve salvation in the hereafter.

One thing to note, is that when a person becomes a Muslim, His/her previous sins are wiped out, and he/she starts as a Muslim with a fresh, clean slate.

One of the benefits is following the original, true, and unadulterated message of God, unchanged and untampered with by man. 100% God's word. No versions. No editions. No human authors. Free from any human interference. The message of God to all mankind, in it's final, unadulterated and pristine form. Thus it supersedes the previous scriptures, while being a continuation, confirmation and culmination of the original message contained within them, in its last and final form. The Final Testament.

We're following a book that tells us what has always been expected from humans since the beginning of time; what God told His prophets to teach people since the creation of the first human. That core message never changed. The essence of Islam is what always was, and has always been, the true and natural religion; the way of all the Prophets, the original message, the only message. The message was: to submit wholeheartedly to the will of God and to worship Him and Him alone, without any associates in, or parts to, His Exclusive Divinity, and to obey the prophet. Thus, Islam is not a new faith, but is the same Ultimate Truth that God revealed to all prophets, including Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus (peace be upon them all). Thus Islam is not named after a specific person (like Christianity, Buddhism), nor after a certain race or place (like Judaism, Hinduism), but is named by God Himself, the meaning loosely translating as 'submission to God', which is what every Prophet and their righteous followers did, from amongst all times, places and peoples. That in itself is one fraction of the evidence that it was the way of all the Prophets from the beginning. Since the time of prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that message is available unchanged and unadulterated. He is the last, not first, prophet of Islam; a messenger to all mankind.

God is given His due Majesty, and is thought of as He Himself taught us, not according to the word of humans or how they think He might be, nor according to the convention of councils.

  • There is only One God. He alone should be worshipped.
  • He does not beget, nor is He begotten. He has no sons, daughters, siblings, parents, cousins, nor relatives of any sort.
  • He is eternal and does not die.
  • There is nothing like Him. He is all Hearing, all Seeing, all Knowing, all Powerful, the Creator of the Universe.
  • He did not/does not, become flesh, dwell in human or animal bodies, nor are there any incarnations of Him.
  • He is not composed of persons, nor a trinity. There are no secondary, lesser, greater, equal, or multiple gods, no intermediaries, and no denying of God's existence either.
  • There are no sharers or associates whatsoever in His Divinity.
  • Simply, He is One, in every sense.

The ultimate truth of Islam stands on unshakeable ground, and in harmony with reason. It's universal message has remained unchanged for over 1400 years, not only a religion, but a way of life, for all people, all times, and all places. It is a complete code of conduct for every aspect of life, from the most intimate, to the most public. It not only exhorts one to be good, but provides complete guidance to practically live that, aiming to prevent problems in society; solutions for problems are also given. The modern world only stands to benefit from Islam.

One of the numerous beautiful things about Islam, is that an increase in knowledge and education, and scientific discoveries, provide further evidence that it is the truth. That is the sign of a true religion, in harmony with reason, logic, and science. Indeed, Islam is the religion for the thinking person - so many times we are told to contemplate, and look at the signs that are there for people of understanding.

It's a great feeling knowing you're following in the footsteps of the Prophets, and not following man-made teachings, and that the teachings are logical and make sense. There are no mental acrobatics involved - the concept of God is simple, clear, and easy for all to understand, as truth should be. If the message you're following is not God's word, then everything goes downhill from there, because you do not know if you're following the truth.

Islam is distinguishable from other religions, as:

1) It is a complete way of life, which is practical and balanced
2) It has a pure and clear concept of the Oneness of God
3) It has a close relationship with the Creator
4) It emphasizes evidence and faith
5) There is accountability and total justice
6) It has a universal and timeless message
7) All the messengers of God are believed in, none are blasphemed or rejected, nor at the other end of the extreme are they made into gods
8) It's scripture is 100% the word of God
9) There is forgiveness as opposed to someone having to atone for your sins
10) Belief and good deeds go hand in hand
11) It is a complete code of conduct for every aspect of life, from the most intimate, to the most public. It not only exhorts one to be good, but provides complete guidance to practically live that, taking a preventative approach to problems in society from the outset. It guides us towards practical ways of achieving righteousness and eliminating evil from our individual and collective lives, taking into account human nature and the complexities of human society.

What happens when someone dies?
This life we have been given is a test. When someone dies, that test or exam is over. The angel of death takes the soul from the body. The body is washed, funeral prayers are prayed, and then burial takes place. Muslims pray for the forgiveness of the person. After burial, the person enters another dimension of this world, called the barzakh. Firstly, each person is questioned, who is your Lord, who is your prophet, and what is your religion. They will also be given glimpses of their final destination. One day, this world will end, and Judgement Day will begin. Everyone that has ever died, will be brought back to life for their reckoning. People will be sent to paradise or to hell, in accordance with the Supreme Justice of God. Not sure how much detail you wanted so will stop there for now, but please do ask any further questions or for clarification on whats been said.

Peace.

I have a question also,

Imagine a scenario where there are two shop stalls. Both hire staff.

One is able to maintain reputation and quality while the other struggles to find staff able to uphold its quality.

Is there something more to the scenario then just luck?

Can you draw any conclusions from the happenstance?

From an Islamic viewpoint.

Its the difference between a prison and paradise apparently.

There are people on this website that would not allow certain things about Islam to be challenged becasue they know that the bible is a threat to the Islamic belief system.

Hello,

This section is for basic questions about Islam, as in your first post. It is not for promoting Christian beliefs. If you wish to know more about how Muslims view the Bible, you can make a thread in the Clarifications about Islam section. You'll also find we have numerous threads about this in that section or the Comparative Religion section.

I'll close this thread as I think your original question was answered.
