Here is what Yasir Qadhi said about this:

Of course our scholars have already discussed these types of issues in classical fiqh works. The Hanafis do not allow tawaf to be done by the one who is physically fit except while walking. Most of the Shafi'is and Hanbalis allow riding/sitting/being pushed even if the person is physically fit (since it is authentically narrated that the Prophet (SAW) did tawaf on his camel once). And the Malikis say that for an obligatory tawaf, the one physically fit must walk, while for a nafl tawaf, s/he may ride or be pushed.

Of course, ALL agree that the one who is weak or otherwise unable to walk may instead ride or be pushed in a wheelchair.

Regardless of the fiqh involved, I'm sure the guy got a quick, easy tawaf done and had plenty of comments/stares along the way!

Assalamualykum.

It is a condition that tawaaf be done on foot.

If for what ever reason a person is unable to, then a wheelchair etc will be allowed.

Jazakallah khair

I thought this guy had a condition, it's not a segway, it has a different name, but as it turns out those things require good balancing and muscle strength and coordination.

It's ajeeb... I didn't know about the opinions about riding camel, etc... but...

Asalamualykum,

Those segways look much safer than wheelchairs.

Some (am tempted to say most) wheelchair users are very inconsiderate when one is performing tawaaf and hurt other pilgrims.

Am told the individuals who push the wheelchair users are paid and this makes them want to finish the tawaaf asap.

Of course, this rush is done at the expense of other pilgrims.

can a mod please merge these two threads?

the guy looks a bit obese/diabetic and the all round picture looks like he would probably find it painful to complete the tawaf on foot.
when i went in 2004 we had to keep pushchairs for the kids for the outer circuit on the roof even though they could walk to a certain extent.
