Ibnul Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) mentioned a very profound statement that highlights the origin of the human being. He said:
And Allaah says:
“The human being was created in his original state, ignorant and oppressive, and will not remove himself from such a state unless Allaah teaches him what will benefit him, and inspires him with guidance. So if Allaah wants good for him, He teaches him what will benefit him, and thus he removes himself by it from his first state of ignorance. And if Allaah benefits him with what He has taught him, then he removes himself, by it, from the second state of oppression. However, if Allaah does not want good for him, He leaves him in his original state (i.e ignorant and oppressive).”
[Ighaathatul Lahfaan]
And Allaah says:
“Indeed We offered the trust (i.e of free will) to the heavens and the earth and the mountains and they all refused to undertake it, being afraid thereof; but man assumed it and indeed he was ignorant and oppressive.”
[Qur’aan 33:72]
