If you gave a toddler the choice between a sweet and a £50 note, he/she would most likely prefer the sweet over the money.
We may think that the child is so innocent and unwise who hasn't yet gained the intellect to understand that the £50 could have been used to buy many more sweets.
The child however decided to go for that which brings immediate results and does not know the value of the money.
Similarly, when we give preference to the Dunya over the hereafter, we are only choosing something immediate and temporary over something which is more valuable and everlasting.
Those who have recognised the value of the akhirah and Jannah and are working for it are the ones who are the most wise and intelligent.
