When Taqī al-Dīn al-Subkī would reside in the hall of Dār al-Ḥadīth al-Ashrafiyya in the year 742, he would come out to its veranda at night to perform Tahajjud toward the noble artefacts, and he would rub his face on the carpet.

This carpet was from the time of al-Asharf, the founder, and his name is found on it. Al-Nawawī would sit on it during lessons.

Taqī al-Dīn al-Subkī would say about himself:

In the Dār al-Ḥadīth is a hidden significance.
On its carpets do I turn and take refuge,
That perhaps I may touch with the heat of my face
An area touched by the foot of al-Nawāwī.

(Al-‘Ulamā’ al-‘Uzzāb, p. 97; quoting from Ṭabaqāt al-Shāfi‘iyya al-Kubrā)
