We often blame our enemies for corrupting Muslims.

Yes, they constitute part of the blame .. but there is another factor which is frequently overlooked, namely, our own contribution to their corruption.

How?

By our extravagant issuing of praise ..
A student of knowledge, Daa'ee or scholar may begin his path with the sincerest intent. But our brothers and sisters, may Allah forgive and guide them, ignore the clear prophetic warning of excessive praise to ones brother's face and flatter them with back-breaking, humility-destroying words.

The problem is that with the passage of time, the subject of praise begins to subconsciously believe the praise which he's receiving, even if he's outwardly rejecting it. This is simply human.

He doesn't notice it, but other people start noticing his behavioural changes, speaking with him becomes increasingly difficult and his opinion cannot be discussed.

He tries his best to conceal it but his self-admiration keeps cropping up in his words, actions, writings, posts and his very facial expression & glances!

Now I ask:

Who's fault was this?

Who were the ones who destroyed him??

Us ... and our careless issuing of praise.

Dearest reader, there is a Fiqh to praise which we must grasp. Wise usage of it encourages the slacker. Ignorant usage of it snaps the necks of activists.

Please please be careful and have mercy on the Muslims.

Very true سبحان الله

This thread reminds me of this Hadith

“The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) ordered us to throw a handful of dust at the faces of those excessive in praise.” [Muslim (3002), Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, Ibn Maja, and Ahmad]
