Assalamu Alaykum,

Are feet included in the awrah of a woman or not? I am mainly referring to prayer, I don't know where I heard this but I have always put socks back on after wudhu because I thought you were only permitted to show your face and hands, my friend found that weird lol, she said she's never heard of it. So is covering your feet compulsory?

Also, should the feet be covered when outside or in front of non-mahrams? I wear pumps on most of the time, they cover the heel and toes but leave the top part of your foot exposed, is that permitted?

JazakAllah khayr!

I think the feet are not an awrah in the hanafi madhab

I didn't know until 3 weeks but my sister attended a lecture at the masjid and it was on this topic and than I did some research and it is true, you do have to cover your feet during salah.I either pray with socks or a long dress that covers my feet and that usually works well.https://islamqa.info/en/1046

I think yes and i do even i have disability in my feet but i prefer to cover then because is better for us and our body is a gift from allah so we should do our best to worship him with it
So i think is aourah and better to cover them on prayer and for non mahram
May allah reward you and help us to worship Him as He want subhanah

Ameen,

JazakAllah khayr for the replies, I think I will ensure my feet are covered at all times anyway, the more modesty the better. :)

According to Hanafi Maddhab:

:fatwa:

The fatwa position in the Hanafi school is that a woman’s feet are not `awra. As such, it is not legally obligatory to cover them in the prayer or outside the prayer. [As mentioned in Radd al-Muhtar and elsewhere.]

However:

1. Caution and scrupulousness would entail covering the feet, because it is obligatory according to other sunni schools (such as the Shafi`is), and it is a strong position within the Hanafi school that they are `awra. This is especially true for prayer, but it is best even outside the prayer when in the presence of those one must cover in front of.

2. It is only allowed to uncover the feet up to the ankles. Anything above the ankles is from one’s `awra. Many women wear skirts or dresses (such as jilbabs) that normally cover the ankles, but reveal the leg area above this while walking (especially in the wind, etc).

There is nothing like safety.

In general, the scholars remind us that one should not apply the Shariah as a dry list of do’s and don’ts. Rather, we should have the intention that we are following Allah’s commands and the guidance of His Messenger (Allah bless him & give him peace), out of love and thanks.

And Allah alone gives success.

Wassalam,
Faraz Rabbani

your body is a trust from Allah. Allah owns us, this body isn't ours. Allah only wants the best from us.
