View Full Version : What do muezzins recite before adhan?

I'm traveling in the Middle East and noticed that a few minutes before adhan, muezzins recite something. The speaker quality is really bad so I usually can't hear or understand what they're saying, but someone said they usually recite something from the Quran. However, a few times it sounded like something else.

Can anyone help me understand what they usually say before adhan?

It confused a few new travelers who mistook it for maghrib adhan and began eating for iftar too early.

Welcome to the forum.

Some muezzins recite salawat (praise for prophet Muhammad) before saying adhan. But actually prophet Muhammad himself never taught it.
