Background and Education
Mufti Abdullah al-Mahmudi was born and raised in the United States. Mufti Abdullah successfully completed secular studies at various governmental and private institutes. Thereafter, through the sheer Mercy of Allah Ta’ala and the Du’a of his parents, Mufti Abdullah was blessed with the zeal to embark upon the journey in search of sacred knowledge and thus enrolled at the prestigious Jamiah Madinatul Ilm in Westland, Michigan.As Jamiah Madinatul Ilm was in its initial stages at that time and classes were relatively small, Mufti Abdullah was granted the opportunity to benefit from his teachers immensely. During his time spent there, Mufti Abdullah quickly became the beloved of his teachers and respectable amongst his peers. Upon graduation, Mufti Abdullah received the grade of distinction in the Alimiyyah Degree.The love of Fiqh and the passion to study further drove Mufti Abdullah firstly to Karachi, Pakistan and then further to Durban, South Africa. Mufti Abdullah completed his Iftaa (Mufti) course at Darul Iftaa Mahmudiyyah under the auspicious tutelage of Shiekh, Mufti Ebrahim Desai Hafidhahullah and Mufti Husain Kadodia Hafidhahullah.Moreover, Mufti Abdullah has the honor of earning ija’zaah (licenses) to relate numerous books, such as the six canonical books of Hadith (Sihah Sitta), from some of the most renowned scholars in the world, including Mufti Taqi Usmani, Mufti Rafi’ Usmani, Maulana Saleemullah Khan, and Maualana Abdul Haleem Chisti Hafidhahumaullah.Mufti Abdullah has also studied Arabic grammar (etymology and morphology), rhetoric, logic, Islamic Finance, Aqeedah, Fiqh (jurisprudence), Quranic Exegesis, and Hadith. Mufti Abdullah has specialized in the area of Fiqh, Usool Fiqh (fundamentals of jurisprudence) and Islamic Finance.Mufti Abdullah currently serves at the Darul Iftaa at Jamiah Madinatul Ilm Westland, Michigan under the supervision of Hadhrat Shiekh-ul-Hadith Qari Muhammad Ilyas Hafidhahullah.
