View Full Version : What sect should I choose (I'm already stuck in one)?

I'm stuck in the Gulenist sect, but deep down I'm not sure if I agree with their beliefs, as I believe they may be too liberal, too nationalist, and have created too much bidah, and i distrust some of their politics. For instance, their followers say Christians and Jews might go to heaven if they were good people because only Allah knows, they believe looking up numerology and astrology is ok so long as you don't use it to predict the future, they believe in celebrating non muslim holidays such as 4th of july, thanksgiving, etc. though this is an exception many members free mix when in each other's homes, especially if the visiting woman is older than the host man (my mom says, "he's young enough to be my little brother" or "he's young enough to be my nephew") they are sufi, etc. for awhile, i wanted to join the salafi sect, or at least a masjid that doesn't follow a sect, but i don't know if my mother, who i live with, and am financially dependent on due to upcoming college, and emotionally dependent on due to autism, would allow me to be salafi, and loathes them with a burning passion, as does my father. as for mainstream masjids i have gotten angry when they or I discussed politics before, and i have often been told by gulenists about the dangers of radicalization.....one professor even told me "you could be praying, and the guy in front of you could be a terrorist! you never know!" and "islamic forums are breeding grounds for extremism" and my father said, "10 percent of people on islamic forums are CIA intelligence officers" I am thus reluctant to shake it off, but i dont know what to do.

If Gulenism is what you state it is then keep away from it. Stick to good reliable scholars of the Madhab you follow. Sit with them and learn from them. Take up Islamic learning and courses in order to solidify the important foundations of your deen.

I said it to you before and I will say it again: Stop wasting your time and energy on discussing politics. You and me may think we know what is going on in the politics of our country's but trust me we don't. Politics is just a front, a stage act and a show. Not many of us truly knows what really goes on behind closed doors so we are just wasting our time and energy discussing "stage play acts".

Concern yourself with what is most important to you and that is to educate yourself with regards to your deen and to Worship and glorify Allah and do everything to please him until your last breath.

And Allah knows best in all matters
