What is prohibited food as per the Quran?

Intoxicants/drugs/alcohol are forbidden.

  • "O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone alters [to other than Allah], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful."
  • "Satan only wants to cause between you animosity and hatred through intoxicants and gambling and to avert you from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer. So will you not desist?"

Forbidden to you is that which dies of itself (decaying corpses), and blood, and flesh of swine (pork), and that on which any other name than that of Allah has been invoked, and the strangled (animal) and that beaten to death, and that killed by a fall and that killed by being smitten with the horn, and that which wild beasts have eaten, except what you slaughter, and what is sacrificed on stones set up (for idols) and that you divide by the arrows; that is a transgression.

But in times of necessity, that which is haram becomes halal.

"He has only forbidden you what dies of itself, and blood, and flesh of swine, and that over which any other (name) than (that of) God has been invoked; but whoever is driven to necessity, not desiring, nor exceeding the limit, no sin shall be upon him; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful."

"but whoever is compelled by hunger, not inclining willfully to sin, then surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful"

JazakaAllah for your reply ..One more thing that

He has only forbidden you dead meat, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and any (food) over which the name of other than God has been invoked. But if one is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits,- then God is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Surah Baqarah, Verse 173) here also Allah has mentioned four things ..just want to know

He has forbidden you carrion (dead, rotting corpses), and blood, and the flesh of swine (pork), and what was dedicated to other than God (if the name of Allah is not recited, or the name of another God is recited). But if anyone is compelled, without desiring or exceeding, he commits no sin (If, for any reason, you must eat this food, out of necessity, it's permissible. Allah does not burden you and wants to make it easier for you). God is Forgiving and Merciful.
