Dog licked me

Asalamualaikum

So a dog licked my clothes today and I know there is a ruling about washing clothes with dirt and then water 7 times. Instead of the dirt can I not just use soap or something? In fact, would my clothes be pure if I just threw them into the washing machine? What constitutes as washing the clothes once? Sprinkling water over it 7 times? Machine washing for 1 hour would surely be better, no?

Thank you for the answers. Looks like I can just throw my clothes into the washing machine once and that will be deemed good enough.

The saliva of carnivorous animals is impure. As mentioned in fatwa posted above, it must be washed 7 times. If you use washing machine, even then you'll have to run 7 wash cycles, each time getting new water, rinsing thoroughly, and spinning to completely drain impure water.
