:salam:

To increase transparency of our actions, I have now enabled post deletion notices for all Full Members to see. Now you will be able to see which posts were deleted in a thread and by whom.

This will help in letting everyone know that it was not only them whose posts were deleted, but a lot of other members also had their posts deleted for clean up. Be rest assured that none of the members are being targeted in particular.

I have concerns for this practice. Sometimes the mods delete posts regarding them irrelevant or improper or for any reason which we are not agree. For example my last deleted post was in the thread discussing whether the one who does not pray is a muslim or not with the reason of “clean up “ and I just wrote that abusing your brother is a worse sin than not praying. I still dont understand the meaning of the given reason and not agree with the deletion but I just did not care. However, if you now write there “anatolian’s post was deleted for clean up” people reading this may think that I really wrote something inappropirate. That may cause a lot of misunderstandings and misconceptions within the members.

I understand your concern. I should have said Off Topic instead of clean up. Several off topic posts were deleted from that thread as part of cleaning up the thread, hence the reason given as Clean Up. We normally select several posts together and apply the same action on them, so it was not possible to give a separate reason for your post. If we delete posts one by one then we can give a more specific reason for each.

But your concern is still valid. Let us see what all other members say. If most of you want us to revert the settings back to they were before, then we can revert them back again.

Assalamu Alaikum,

Maybe it is best to add a poll. I personally don't like the idea. I know the purpose is to refute favoritism when it comes to deleting posts, but aesthetically it's not pleasing to look at when going through a thread. We also don't always give a specific reason as to why comments are deleted when deleted in bulk as explained above and maybe that's really the only time when we get complaints. However, when reasons are given, it helps that there is a level of privacy between the moderator and member--depending on the situation--that doesn't warrant a lot of judgement from other members. For me, that's more important and allows us to be authentic. If specifying reasons is an issue when posts are deleted, I don't mind adding a specific reason each time I delete a post on my part. There's always the help desk for clarifying if needed. I'm fine with whatever decision is made though and don't mind any comments in regards on how I can improve my moderation.

Some of my posts were deleted. Usually I do not object to it, because I do not think that the operators have wrong intentions with that action.
What does bug me though, is that I give effort to post my reaction (with all the right intentions) and then it gets deleted and my effort got lost. sometimes I do not even know which post exactly was deleted (Or I didn't find out where to look for this information.)
What I at least expect is to give me the opportunity to revise my posts in such a way that it is appropriate for the thread.
So just to return my post back to me as a personal message with a small explanation like "off topic" will do.

Off Topic posts from this thread are moved to the Helpdesk for clarification.

Good suggestion. I have added a poll to this thread and disabled the post deletion notices for the time being. Let us see the result of the poll after a few days.

It might be possible to modify the automated PM template and add the post contents there. I will see if that can be done :ia:

We usually delete posts only if they:
  • contravene the rules and regulations of Islamicboard
  • show Islam or Muslims in negative light or can negatively affect the faith of Muslims
  • derail a thread off topic
  • or replies to other deleted posts

It is possible that some of your posts might have fallen in the last category. Such posts are perfectly fine when taken individually, but when they are in a thread in which the previous posts or the quoted posts are deleted, they no longer make sense. So we delete them as well.
