The punishment for a person who does not pray out of laziness

There are three opinions in regards to the punishment of the person who persists in abandoning the Salaah out of laziness but believes in it being obligatory


The first opinion is held by Maalik, Imaam al-Shaafi'i, Hammaad bin Zaid, and wakii'


According to this opinion such a person will be confined (i.e. jailed) for three days. He will be given these three days to repent and start praying. If he does not then he will be killed as a hadd punishment and not as a kaafir (i.e. he will not be killed for apostasy but he will be killed as a hadd punishment).


The second opinion is that of Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), al-hasan al-Basri, al-'awzaa'i, Ibn al-Mubaarak, and the view of Ahmad in the most authentic of two narrations from him.


The opinion states that the person will be jailed for three days to repent and start praying. If he does not, he will be killed as an apostate (i.e. he will be killed because he has become an apostate and is a kaafir). They have based their opinion on the following hadiith




It is narrated on the authority of Jabir that he heard the Apostle (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) saying. Verily between man and between kufr is the negligence of prayer.

The third opinion is that the person will be jailed and beaten until he prays. This is the opinion which has been transmitted from al-Zuhri and Abu Hanifah. There evidence is the following hadiith


It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that:

'Uthman said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) say: 'It is not permissible to shed the blood of a Muslim except in three cases: A man who commits adultery after having married; or one who kills intentionally, in which case he deserves retaliation; or one who apostatizes after having become Muslim, in which case he deserves to be killed.'"

Lol, I would think it's information from other people most of the time.

Also being in the same town or place becomes routine.. same faces day to day, hearing the same thing day to day.

As a shopkeeper I find it very hard when the imam mentions people who miss prayer for the sake of business.. unfair I suppose to be ridiculed to your face rather than behind your back.

At the same time saying that religion desires sacrifice and that barakat and risak increases when your on your deen.

And then reminding us to donate money because of a fire that damaged the building.


...so many mixed messages.

But I felt no superiority for being at mosque while my brother attended a customer who walked in as we were both going to attend jumma prayer.

A test from Allah azza wa jall or the shaitans wonderings, I don't know.. the customer was a Muslim also so I don't hold out much hope to be honest.

But I suppose we live in times where the eyes and ears never lie.

..and if you don't take men as God then he has a few paragraphs for you also.

Those were the ones upon whom Allah bestowed favor from among the prophets of the descendants of Adam and of those We carried [in the ship] with Noah, and of the descendants of Abraham and Israel, and of those whom We guided and chose. When the verses of the Most Merciful were recited to them, they fell in prostration and weeping.

But there came after them successors who neglected prayer and pursued desires; so they are going to meet evil -

...

And warn by the Qur'an those who fear that they will be gathered before their Lord - for them besides Him will be no protector and no intercessor - that they might become righteous.

And do not send away those who call upon their Lord morning and afternoon, seeking His countenance. Not upon you is anything of their account and not upon them is anything of your account. So were you to send them away, you would [then] be of the wrongdoers.

Have you seen the one who denies the Recompense?

For that is the one who drives away the orphan

And does not encourage the feeding of the poor.

So woe to those who pray

[But] who are heedless of their prayer -

Those who make show [of their deeds]

And withhold [simple] assistance.



....yeah pretty sure I misinterpreted that last one but make of it what you will.

The first thing to safeguard a person is to understand how dangerous following of desires is..

But it doesn't mean anything to you until it means something to you.. and then it's no fun at all.

I understand how serious it is. Just wondering how it is possible for Saudi people to apply capital punishment.

Because the law and the application of the law are two different things.

The Saudi Arabians are far from the letter of the law though.. they have the equivalent of modern day slavery.

Foreign workers that are denied rights to such an extent that it is basically slavery.

Although I suppose they do similar things to western business..

To safeguard themselves.
