Salaam.

Is philosophy outright forbidden in Islam? Or is it discouraged to study it because a lot of it has views that contradict Islam such as Nietzsche?

A ruling regarding philosophy that includes the consideration of this study being compulsory.

A priority is understanding our religions, it rulings, how to recite the Quran with the rules of proper Tajweed etc. Some lectures on Islamic Philosophy, there's also many on Imam Ghazzali, R.A on youtube.

Nothing wrong with studying other concepts and ideas as long as you do not believe in it. This is my opinion.

Asalamualikum, can you give an example of things that contradict? I haven't studied Nietzsche, but I've studied some basic stoicism and some works of Imam Ali (RA) and found many parallels. Especially between how to manage your emotions, remaining calm, the idea that a thing is neither good or bad until you prescribe a meaning to it.

As far as it being forbidden or discouraged? No.

But to add to the subject, I think the first thing to do for anyone who wants to study other beliefs / works is to be familiar with their own beliefs. Look at anyone who gives dawah. Most, if not all, of them (the ones I'm familiar with) have studied other belief systems which helps them in their cause.

Is it unanimously agreed that you should study Islamic Philosophy? Are there no other views in this? Also do you mean Islamic Philosophers or all philosophy?
