View Full Version : How to get rid of extreme wiswas from the kuffar and shayateen?

I suffered from disbelief at times in my youth. Or low iman. The arguments of atheists and "orientalists" or christian missionaries or apologists or jewish rabbis still bug me and even though many claim i am pious, deep down i have very, very bad wiswas which affects every aspect of my life in two forms: wiswas ul shaytan (waswasa from the devil) and wiswasul qahri. for instance, every time i read the quran, i hear whispers overwhelming me telling me "Muhammad (saws) was possessed by a jinn" or "Muhammad (saws) was possesed by shaytan" are there arguments against this? i need clarification. or that "Muhammad (saws) made up the quran" or that it feels like when i am reading quran, i am on surface, not engaged or actively believing, yet i find enjoyment, and still "believe". yet i worship abundantly and do not have the traits of a hypocrite, for instance, i never lie. in fact it's actually a problem that i am too honest. could someone please clarify this for me?

other doubts include: "muhammad (saws) was not from lineage of Davud (David AS), etc. arguments the torah and bible are still intact because changing one letter of the torah is forbidden and though there were many gospels weeded out, it is like hadeeth.

To stop your waswas in Islam, you need to keep a very open mind and a very well defined path. As per my studies and practise, there are three best ways to overcome your waswas.

Method # 1 : Seeking the Help of an enlightened Islamic Scholar.
Method # 2 : Enhance your knowledge about waswas through in-depth self-study .
Method # 3 : Consult a Medical professional.
Simply go to a jama Mosque and seek a Mufti's advice . Remember please that Jama Masjid (also spelled Jame Mosque, Jami Masjid, Jameh Mosque, Jamia Masjidor Jomeh Mosque) is referred to as the main mosque in town or city . It is better to visit a jami mosque , since there are greater chances of meeting a learned Scholar there .He can listen to your problem in required details and can recommend you a solution.

but why are these claims wrong? i;ve literally seen videos promoting claims hat Muhammad (SAWS) was possessed by Satan of the Bible or articles that say he had temporal lobe epilsepsy EDIT: I fail to have mentioned that perhaps this is not waswasa but doubts.

Assalamu alaikum

This is not something unique to you, some of the Sahabah RA also suffered from waswas. Read the following narrations:

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “Some of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said to him, ‘We find in ourselves thoughts that are too terrible to speak of.’ He said, ‘Are you really suffering from that?’ They said, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘That is a clear sign of faith.’” (Muslim).

It was narrated in al-Saheehayn, also from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “The Shaytan comes to one of you and says, ‘Who created such and such? Who created such and such?’ Until he says, ‘Who created your Lord?!’ If that happens to any of you, let him seek refuge with Allah and put a stop to these thoughts.”

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said, “I think thoughts to myself, which I would rather be burnt to a cinder than speak of them.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Praise be to Allah, Who has reduced all his [the Shaytan’s] plots to mere whispers.” (Abu Dawood).

Please do not worry about these thoughts. It is Shaitan who is causing these wasawis and you will not be held responsible for it as long as you don't believe in them and do not speak about them. Just seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaitan and do not let him play with your mind.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Allah will forgive my ummah (followers) for any insinuating whispers that may cross their minds, so long as they do not act upon it or speak of it.” (Agreed upon).

Thank you, sister. I guess I try too hard to think "logically" when really I should run away (just like from dajjal, who we are advised to keep away from) and seek refuge in Allah and SUBMIT to him because Islam means "submission".

Muhammad (SAWS) was possessed by Satan of the Bible or articles that say he had temporal lobe epilsepsy
These are clear lies and Allah's curse be on those who spread these lies. I'll just present one ayah and one hadeeth to counter this.

Allah says:

So remind [O Muhammad], for you are not, by the favor of your Lord, a soothsayer or a madman. [52:29]

Narrated Aisha:
Aisha said: One day Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) went out of her (Aisha's apartment) during the night and she felt jealous. Then he came and he saw me (in what agitated state of mind) I was. He said: Aisha, what has happened to you? Do you feel jealous? Thereupon she said: How can it be (that a woman like me) should not feel jealous in regard to a husband like you? Thereupon Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) said: It was your devil who had come to you, and she said: Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) is there along with me a devil? He said: Yes. I said: Is devil attached to everyone? He said: Yes. I (Aisha) again said: Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) is it with you also? He said: Yes, but my Lord has helped me against him as such I am absolutely safe from his mischief. (Sahih Muslim, Book 039, Number 6759)

Yes Shaitan does not have power over you. As Allah describes: “Feeble indeed is the cunning of Satan.”(An-Nisaa’: 76)

Just seek refuge in Allah; you don't have to convince Shaitan.

Also I would advice you not to visit these non-Muslim sites, do not watch their videos or lies for the sake of your Iman; it is afterall very precious.

Brother SintoDinto,

What you are going through is from the Shaytan. Let me go a bit personal.

A while ago I was far away from a good practising muslim. I prayed because I had to, and I never really focused in any of my worship. I did NOT have any whispers from the Shaytan, because I was a loser anyway he didn't need to waste his time with me.

Until recently I started to take Islam very seriously. And oh God the whisper I'm having is some stuff I cannot even mention. Things about Allah (SWT). These thoughts follow me everywhere even when I'm cooking.

Not only that shaytan will cause me to doubt how many Rakahs I prayed in Salah or if I made Wudu. And the yawning that comes ONLY when reading quran and praying. That I always resist

But you know what? Instead of giving up I'm forcing myself to continue. I would take longer to read quran and do my Salah because of the Shaytan. But I would never give up.

What's going on with me just proves that I'm on the right track, why now that I'm worshiping Allah I'm having them? Why didn't I have these thoughts before? I don't even look and search into my thoughts because I do not want to be in doubt or be caused to confusion. In other words not giving up to shaytan.

Sometimes I stop myself in mid thoughts and Swear that Allah is true, is the one, and the day of judgement will come. Just to keep my belief.

Also know that even the companions had these thoughts and the prophet Muhammad ﷺ said to seek refuge in Allah from the Shaytan.

Another thing to do is to read quran whenever you have these thoughts, force yourself to do things shaytan hates.

And lastly never leave 4 things.
1. Your prayer
2. Reading Athkar morning and evening
3. Reading quran
4. Pray and thank Allah that you are still a muslim and to keep you a muslim until your last breath in this dunya.

We need to be able to fight these thoughts that are from the Shaytan. If we can't imagine at our death bed when we are the weakest, this is shaytaans most strongest point to get us and make us to disbelieve.

May Allah make it easy on you and all of the muslims.

Question
I am suffering with wasawis and doubt problems which give me lots of stress and i feel deepres in this conditon what should now i do?

Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

We advise you not to ponder and build on these thoughts, as you will be aiding the Shaytaan in fulfilling his mission. Do not allow the whispers of Shaytaan to intimidate you.

Hereunder are some ways to combat the whisperings of Shaytaan:

Constantly recite the undermentioned supplications/duas :
رَبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ هَمَزَاتِ الشَّيَاطِينِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ رَبِّ أَنْ يَحْضُرُونِ

Translation: O Allah! I seek your protection from the evil whisperings of the Shaytaan, and, O my Rabb, I seek Your protection that they (the Shaytaan) approach me (because they always approach with evil).’”

(Surah Al-Mu’minoon, Verses 97-98)

اَللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ وَسَاوِسَ قلبي خَشْيَتَكَ وذِكْرَكَ واجْعَلْ همتي وهَوَايَ فِيْمَا تُحِبُّ وتَرْضَى

Translation: “O Allah! Make Your fear and remembrance the obsession of my mind and divert my will and courage to the performance of deeds that please You.”

لا حول ولا قوة الا بالله

Translation: There is no power to neither do any good nor prevent any evil except in Allah

Recite the Ta’awwudh as much as possible.
Recite Surah Al-Falaq and Surah Al-Naas
Implore Allah Taalah in Du’aa to alleviate you from your predicament. Du’aa is the most powerful weapon of the believer.

Read the book “Combating the whisperings of Shaytaan” by Hadhrat Moulana Yunus Patel Saheb (Rahimahullah).

My beloved Ustaadh Hadhrat Mufti Ebrahim Desai Saheb Hafidhaullah advises:

When you are on a highway filled with smoke that obscures the road, you will not worry to remove the smoke. You will focus on the road and drive through the smoke. You will pay attention on the road and not at the smoke.

The wasaawis are like the smoke. Ignore the wasaawis and work through them even though your work might feel obscured. Do not get caught up with the tricks of Shaytaan.

May Almighty Allah alleviate you from your predicament. Aameen.

I've been told that: " if yo ever face Satanic whispers, you can completely ignore them and don't act upon it, for the devil or Qarim will leave you alone because it hurts them the people who ignore them, and secondly you can also say 'die you Satan' and you will be left alone without bothered by evil whispers" this what I was told by a Christian after I told her that I have very strong and disturbing evil thoughts and she told me what to do. Does Quran agrees with her advise? Because, to me it sounded very true and right thing, now I don't know if it is as what I think it is.

What she has said is correct. However instead of saying "die you Satan" we have been advised to say "أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم" (I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaitan) and Shaitan will run away.

Ok, so what she told me is like 50% correct? And thanx for your opinion. One thing just to be clarified, what is wrong is saying: "die you Satan!"? it is as an insult or what? I know that we have to seek God's refuge against Satan, but I just asked this question just to clarify because I did not understood the reason.

Because we have been given something better by Allah ta'ala i.e. Audhubillah! Nothing wrong in saying 'die you Satan' per se but why say other things instead of seeking refuge in Allah which Allah Himself has commanded?

I believe reciting the refuge supplication which was given to us is much better, just askin' for clarity only. Thanx, now I understand.

What could be classified as a satanic whisper? Im sure i have extreme weswes but idk. I used to feel before like Allah abandoned me and didnt want me to be muslim. Is this considered satanic whisper or just thinking of doing bad things to people, would it be whisper too? .... or we are talking about doubting religion only?
Also the thoughts of : what if? I have them a lot.For almost everything i say what if i had that. And if i have that i say what if i had a better one,or what if that or this happened.

I never came across smth like this.I would like to know. How do we ignore them? We just try not to think of it and act like we didnt think of them at all?
If you have any hadith or ayah about this id love to see it if you can.Thank you, jazakhAllahu Khair

Don't ever think that God has abandoned you, this is totally Satanic whispers. Remember, God is All Hearer, All Powerful, All Seeing and All Capable. And He is closer to you when you worship Him, and He is taking care of everyone.

If you ever have this evil thought, don't speak about it, and instead of speaking it, it is preferable and much wise for you to recite this: "I seek refuge from God against the devil".

Respected brother,
Assalamu alaikum

What could be classified as a satanic whisper? Im sure i have extreme weswes but idk. I used to feel before like Allah abandoned me and didnt want me to be muslim.
This is a classic example of Shaitanic whisper. Allah ta'ala never abandons His faithful servants. Please do not pay heed to these thoughts and recite audhubillah.

Also the thoughts of : what if? I have them a lot.For almost everything i say what if i had that. And if i have that i say what if i had a better one,or what if that or this happened.
This "what if" is from Shaitan. Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying:

A strong believer is better and is more lovable to Allah than a weak believer, and there is good in everyone, (but) cherish that which gives you benefit (in the Hereafter) and seek help from Allah and do not lose heart, and if anything (in the form of trouble) comes to you, don't say: If I had not done that, it would not have happened so and so, but say: Allah did that what He had ordained to do and your" if" opens the (gate) for the Satan. [Sahih Muslim 2664]

How do we ignore them? We just try not to think of it and act like we didnt think of them at all?
Just ignore them. As Hadhrat Mufti Ebrahim Desai Saheb Hafidhaullah advises:

When you are on a highway filled with smoke that obscures the road, you will not worry to remove the smoke. You will focus on the road and drive through the smoke. You will pay attention on the road and not at the smoke.

Jzk khair for your reply also.I feel better about it now that i read this hadith. In shaa Allah this waswas is all lies.
Now after Allah has given me a pure sign that He didnt abandoned me,shaytan is telling me you will never find a good wive, you will always be alone, you will pay for what you have done, you should have done this,if you did that things would be diff, what if this what if that.

I had asked you to make a duaa for me before i think and thank you for that.It worked. Please make another one.Mine may not be that strong.JazakhAllahu Khair.
