Assalam o alaikum rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu

That prayer is not prescribed. Focus on tahajudd as it is blessed prayer . Just put strong trust in Allah and be patient,

Never give up.

JazakAllah khair

You can do salatul hajat prayer in 2 rakaah units. Just 2 rakaahs is enough.

The way to pray it is like normal prayer, and after you finished the prayers you ask for the help you need in dua.

I think the difference between the IslamQA site and IslamQA.org site is because the mainstream Scholars (representing the latter site) are not strict about hadith having to be sahih regarding nafl ibadah, see :

The Hadith regarding this prayer is weak. That means the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) may have prescribed the prayer and he (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) may not have.

If you are comfortable taking the risk of putting your faith in an action which may or may not have been prescribed then go right ahead and keep praying.

If, in contrast, you like to ensure that the action you undertake has been prescribed by Islamic legislation, then it is best to avoid such a prayer. Concentrate on what has reached us authentically.
