My mother and father are pressuring me to keep a job as a supermarket employee where some of the items I put into people's bags are inevitably pork and alcohol. imam abu hanifah said this was permissible, as i am selling in a non muslim country to non muslims, and the deoband school such as ebrahim desai said it is ok. is this job permissible? i intend on becoming a more religious muslim.

Dont let those people called deobani affect your religion. They should guide themselves first before guiding others

Shaikh Assim Alhakeem is mistaken about them. Most of the things that he has mentioned about them aren't actually from Deobandi teachings. He has mixed up between two different schools.

If you dont look at any school for opinion, it is very clear from this hadith that it would be haram.

Abu Dawood (3674) and Ibn Maajah (3380) narrated that Ibn ‘Umar said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah has cursed alcohol, the one who drinks it, the one who pours it, the one who sells it, the one who buys it, the one who squeezes (the grapes etc), the one for whom it is squeezed, the one who carries it and the one to whom it is carried.” Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.

İts not that simple İ'm afraid...he is only an employee over there...he is not the one selling it...even if he was sitting at the cash register and collects money from the customers...he is not the one putting those haraam stuff in the inventar and sells it to customers.
İt may still be haraam to work as an employee at a supermarket where they sell alcohol...but if that is the case...then it is also haraam for you to buy groceries there.

Buying groceries in a place where they sell haram and halal is not haram because when you enter the marketplace you know its the place of shaytan and there are sellers who may do cheating in the scales(that doesnt happen today but you know the idea).
You are not cooperating or being part of the process you only buy what you need and go.

But working in one you are basically cooperating in haram even if you are just collecting the cash, you are part of the process.
But anyway as you said its not that simple. It depends if he has no other job except this or if this is the less haram job or it all depends on his situation. We cant say yes or no though the gut feeling says this is haram. I work too in a job where i am part of the process of selling/transporting alcohol and i dont have to ask its halal or not because i feel that is haram but may Allah forgive me because i have no other choice. If i were to have another option which was halal and i still stayed at this job then id have no exuse.

I think the issue can be more broad than even working in a grocery store. What if you work construction and are part of a crew who is building a new site that is for a weapons company, or a warehouse that stores products that are clearly haram, etc.? Or what if you work in the mechanical industry that services their equipment? Some of us may be directly or indirectly helping the process even if we are in industries where it may not be blatantly obvious. I worked at an airport about 20 years ago and every now and then, we would load planes that carried pallets of alcohol. At the time, I never thought about it, but technically, I was part of the process.

Or even more broad than that...a lot of companies invest their money in a haraam way...or recieve an interest rate for it.
So its really difficult to avoid all that.
