Salam, I’m in a dilemma where my parents lie about my career to others. I’m a nurse, a career that requires hard work and dedication which people in my culture don’t see. Nursing back in my home country means being a maid, vs here where it requires education. Nursing here is equal to being a doctor there, as its a very undeveloped country with little education. My parents want to protect me from scrutiny from others so when anyone asks, they say I am a doctor instead of a nurse. I know their intentions are good, because the last time I told my family I wanted to be a nurse they were horrible and made me feel stupid as they don’t understand what it really it. I am content with my career but they aren’t! I’m afraid I will get the sin as lying is terrible so I have to ask, will I get the sin if my parents lie about me? And if they’re in the right, is bending the name of your career permissible to prevent being slandered and shamed by others? Please help on how I can avoid this when they ask me what I do, I’m desperate. Thank you.
