View Full Version : Physical exercise in mosque?

Nowadays we see many Moslem go to mosque(almost 5
times a day), not to pray but to do physical exercise.
They actually do not perform their prayer at the
mosque. What are they actually doing in the mosque?
They are only doing physical exercise to be presented
to God while God does not need the physical exercise.
Why do we say that they are doing physical exercise?
Because they perform the prayer physically, not
spiritually. They do not pay concentration in their
prayer. They recite the quranic verse in the prayer
but they do not understand anything. As well as the
rest of the words and recitation in the each pillar of
prayer. What can we reckon to those who speak but does
not understand what he/she speaks? A crazy man/woman,
right?
Their body bow and prostrate before God but their
minds/souls are flying to somewhere else such as
office, bouse, school, university etc. Their tongue
recites the quranic verse of 'Al Fatihah' but their
mind is culculating the profit of bussiness in the
prayer. Their tongue recites the 'doa' but their soul
is visiting a nice place which is situated in a far
place. Sometimes they could solve a complicated
problem in the prayer, they can get the answer of
their question in the prayer, they can find the lost
key in the prayer.
So they are only exercising their physical body in the
mosque. They wake up in the early morning to bow and
prostrate before God, but what they get is the sweat
and the healthy body. A strange thing - the mosque has
been used for the physical exercise and training, a
new style of doing the physical exercise, that is on
the carpet.
As the result, their prayer do not give any effect to
their attitude and manner. While Allah said in the
Quran that 'solat' (prayer) can enjoin us to do good
and to abstain the evil deeds.
This type of prayer is rejected and deserves the
punishment in the Hereafter. Allah provided a specific
hell for those who hasn't paid concentration in
his/her prayer, that is called 'wail'(arabic language)
Therefore let us fix up the quality of our prayer to
be presented to God because prayer is the mother of
worship in Islam and it will be the first
worship(ibadah) that will be examined/checked in the
Doomsday. Do understand the meaning of the each
recitation in the prayer and control our mind and
heart not to think unrelevant things in the prayer.
This is the first step to improve the quality of
prayer in order to be accepted by God.

but at least these brothers make the effort to go to the mosque.. so that means something on it's own too.. as for having thoughts when one prays.. thats natural.. i still admire all who go to mosque for prayer, when they couldve been doin something else.. and only Allah knows their intentionz.. i think imaams should help brothers to understand the meaning of prayer to help them concentrate on it.. and when kids are taught to pray, thats when they should be taught what it means to pray..

remember they may not be perfect but they do it for Allah.. i respect them for that :thumbs_up

Jazakallah Khayr for the post. When brothers/sisters go to the masjid to pray, whether they pray in the correct way with khushu' (concentration) is between them and Allah. We should not say that they are not praying in the right way (unless we see them doing a F1 style salah)

We should not be satisfied if we do not know the meaning of the words we utter in prayer, as well as if we don't reach the level of khusyu' in prayer. In Quran, Allah promises a specific hell for those who do not 'khusyu' in prayer, which is called 'Wail'.
The prayer performed without concentration is rejected by God. It also can't change our attitude from positive to negative. Please take this matter very seriously!

When you are praying or worshipping Allah,
Your physical body is standing,
But it does not know anything,
Your physical limb is bowing, but it does not understand anything,
Your physical body is also prostrating,
But remember! It does not know anything.
When your tongue is reciting, It does not understand anything.
If your soul is not bowing together with its physical counterpart,
You have not felt the presence of God.
What did you whisper and say to your God?
If you have not spoken anything when you are worshipping Allah,
You do not feel the presence of God,
Because your heart and soul are not prostrating together,
You do not feel as if you are a servant to the Almighty.
Therefore while worshipping Allah,
And whispering and speaking with God,
You do not feel the presence of God (at that time),
There is no feeling of humbleness, humiliation or lowliness before God,
You do not feel that you are asking and appealing,
You have not prayed,
You are not praying at that time,
You are only performing physical exercise for Allah.
It is no wonder your behavior/manners do not change,

Asalam u Alikum
brother nice post
What i see we have stopped to think about Allah, blessing of Allah, fear of Allah and also to think what we are doing. we have given more importance to follow the fiqah...pray in this way or in that way. which had caused us in this way that we forget about the niyat, i mean for eg
as we stand and took our handsup have we ever ask our self why we do this there is a niyat for it so as for whole Salat I think as we say Allah Hu Akbar and take our hands upto our shoulder or above it so we are salendering infront of Allah showing the fist to Allah that handup from the world from the thoughts of this world before Starting of Salat but from inside we don't
Think over it

The virtue (goodness) of a servant begins after he amends his quality of prayer.
Prayer is the turning point of everything.
When prayer performed externally and internally is perfect
requiring the presence of mind, heart, soul, humbleness, and understanding what is read,
the bounteous blessings of God are showered upon him.
God will purify his heart. Guidance(hidayah) is placed in his heart.
The traits of lovingGod, fear of God, loving and caring, generosity, tolerance, patience, content, ‘tawakkal,’ andf orgiveness grow in his heart.
His beautiful manner, as well as discipline become noticeable.
For this reason, let us amend our prayer until we feel that we are worshipping Him.
Do not think that our soul can be purified without prayer, not that it can be cleansed
with adefective [prayer].
Prayer is mother of worship.
Prayer is the source of every virtue.
In Islam, prayer is given a great attention.
When the prayer is proper, the rest of the things are proper.
If prayer isn eglected or is not given serious attention, or it is performed
without the presence of mind and heart, all the doors of virtue are closed.
If there is one who is making good deeds but is not praying, the virtue (good deeds) is probably not based on faith(iman).
It also probably is being performed without purpose, or as animitation of others.
Therefore, please give serious attention and regard towards prayer

This post is specifically dedicated to those who are going to mosque but are not khyusyuk in their prayers. We are not talking about those who do not go to mosque at all. For them, we should bring another post which is more relevant. I believe most of the readers in this website are praying.

I understand the post is meant for good intentions. But it's a little too harsh and judgemental in saying that those who go to mosque are doing anything but physical exercise. If they are wrong, then don't you think it's also wrong to discriminate? Who are we to judge anyone else? The post could've addressed the importance of praying with khusu without putting worshippers down. Remember Allah rewards the niyah to do something good, let alone for carrying out the deed. So plz don't diss worshippers when they've made the effort and intention to worship Allah as they know best.

I didn't mean all worshipper go to mosque for physical exercises. I just said 'many', please re-read my statement. I didn't give a blunt judgement.

If your heart has not yet fallen in love with God,What’s more if He is not yet becoming your lover, How do you worship God then?Definitely you do not enjoy your worship, If that the case, thenHow could you enjoy worshipping Him?How could you express your feeling of longing? Also if you have not yet secured the feeling of fearof GodIt’s impossible then to secure the subservient feelingwhen you are worshipping Him,Likewise the feelings of awful, shame ness, vilenessand humbleness,If you still worship Him,Then definitely it is being forced,Being force is much suffering, It is also very boring, In the time of busy or difficulty,Surely you neglect it (the worship),Therefore to know God is very vital,So that we would love and be scared of Him,We would feel He is the Protector, the Savior and theGift(the sustenance) Giver, We really feel that He loves us dearly,Subsequently we would miss Him very much,In worshipping Him, we feel it is a great pleasure,We would consult and ask anything to Him,We would express our deep feeling,As well as our longing and hope,We would feel very satisfied,Our heart then is very peace and serenity,Between the equal feelings of hope and fear….
