yes mashallah true bro ahmed, it is all about your intention of when using the internet, if your intention is of good then yes it is fine, but if your intention is of bad, then it will lead you to Haram

i think going on the internet to find out if its haram will give you very biased views lol.

maybe go talk to a local imam if u want clarification! but in my opinion as long as you stay away from the filth its completely ok but Allahu allam!!!

Internet is a medium you use, like a T.V. I dont think that you can say a whole medium is haram because it can be used for haram. I think if it was that way, then radios would be haram because you can listen to music with it. I am not a scholar but in my view, like brother metsudaistwice said, it depends on your intentions. While it may be used for haram, it is sometimes an essential tool that we need to use nowadays. Whether to get important information, work ect.

May i just point out that music was around in the time of rasulullah (saw) The pagan arabs of his time were notorious for live dancing with music and drinking and all other kinds of haram acts. That is one of the reasons why music was disallowed. As for the internet, as has already been said, it depends on your intention - if you intend to do good, its fine, but if you intend to to bad, its haram

But surly the temptation is there in the internet (to view porn and that). If the internet was classed as haram then it would take away the temptation.

Well, knives existed in the times of the prophet (saw). You can use knives to hunt, cut, chop etc, but if you use the knife to kill/threaten someone then you're misusing it. That didn't make knives haraam did it? It's how a tools is used that determines misuse. The internet is merely another tool. You can use it for good or bad. So not it's not haraam. The point is how you decide to use it.


My motto for the internet is 'USE it but DON'T abuse it!' :thankyou:

In certain instances, where someone sees an issue that must be addressed, it can become a specific obligation upon that person to address it. For instance, those Muslims who use the Internet are the ones upon whom the obligation for engaging in da`wah on the Internet falls. If a Muslim surfing the Internet sees that there is insufficient da`wah taking place, then he must act to remedy the situation.

'Haraam' means forbidden.

quick question (off topic too) what does "salam" & "wassalam" mean? Is it like a "hello" & "goodbye"?

These two are used like 'hello' and 'goodbye', although the meaning is slightly different.

'Salaam' is short for 'salaam alaykum' which means 'peace be upon you'. The response is 'walaykum salaam', which means 'and peace be upon you'.

i don't think so that there is any issue in using internet. it depends on you that for which purpose you are using it. if you are using just for listening songs, and making friends in facebook then of course it is haram, but if you are taking knowledge of islam and taking help for your job then it is permissible for you.

Anything and everything can be bad or good. It is about HOW you use it. Do you use the internet to stay in touch with distant friends/relatives, keep up with the news,sports,weather or searching for educational information or do you use it to watch bad things, harass people, or waste time??

Let's use common sense.
