Salaam’

Firstly, don't get put off the he long post, its really not that long, its only 52 ayates...

I've seen many Kafir use these ayates out of context to snookered Muslims. I was watching the TV the other day and a few Kafir referred to these verses and some of the so called "alims" were lost.

Anyway I was debating an Atheist at university and he hit me with a theses verses which was totally out of context. Obviously I told him the verses were out of context, however that weakened my position.
So anyway, what I am doing is looking up the verses putting them in context and then providing an explanation to them, I will need help on the explanation as I am not a Islamic scholar I cannot try to interpret them myself so am looking for someone who is knowledgeable on this and would give an explanation I will add the explanation I find myself, also if someone could check that would be great.

OK if you need to add explanations then, please add your explanation within the “# [Explanation place holder] (+)” just after “[“ and before “]” this just makes it a whole load easier for me.

The Cow

1.
And call two witness from among your men, two witnesses. And if two men be not at hand, then a man and two women.--2:282 (*1)
(This is the same verse in context I have the English Translation Of The Holy Qur'an by Abdullah Yusuf Ali.:)
[Note from now on I will refer to them just as verse in context or (*2) – see footnotes (*2) right at the end for info]

Verse in context:
The Cow -282. O ye who believe! When ye deal with each other, in transactions involving future obligations in a fixed period of time, reduce them to writing Let a scribe write down faithfully as between the parties: let not the scribe refuse to write: as Allah Has taught him, so let him write. Let him who incurs the liability dictate, but let him fear His Lord Allah, and not diminish aught of what he owes. If they party liable is mentally deficient, or weak, or unable Himself to dictate, Let his guardian dictate faithfully, and get two witnesses, out of your own men, and if there are not two men, then a man and two women, such as ye choose, for witnesses, so that if one of them errs, the other can remind her. The witnesses should not refuse when they are called on (For evidence). Disdain not to reduce to writing (your contract) for a future period, whether it be small or big: it is juster in the sight of Allah, More suitable as evidence, and more convenient to prevent doubts among yourselves but if it be a transaction which ye carry out on the spot among yourselves, there is no blame on you if ye reduce it not to writing. But take witness whenever ye make a commercial contract; and let neither scribe nor witness suffer harm. If ye do (such harm), it would be wickedness in you. So fear Allah. For it is Good that teaches you. And Allah is well acquainted with all things. If ye are on a journey, and cannot find a scribe, a pledge with possession (may serve the purpose). And if one of you deposits a thing on trust with another, let the trustee (faithfully) discharge his trust, and let him Fear his Lord conceal not evidence; for whoever conceals it, - his heart is tainted with sin. And Allah knoweth all that ye do. (*2)

5. Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment).
6. They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event):
7. But We see it (quite) near.
8. The Day that the sky will be like molten brass,
9. And the mountains will be like wool,
10. And no friend will ask after a friend,

Quote:
Males are to inherit twice that of females. 4:11 (*1)

Quote:
11. Allah (thus) directs you as regards your Children's (Inheritance): to the male, a portion equal to that of two females: if only daughters, two or more, their share is two-thirds of the inheritance; if only one, her share is a half. For parents, a sixth share of the inheritance to each, if the deceased left children; if no children, and the parents are the (only) heirs, the mother has a third; if the deceased Left brothers (or sisters) the mother has a sixth. (The distribution in all cases ('s) after the payment of legacies and debts. Ye know not whether your parents or your children are nearest to you in benefit. These are settled portions ordained by Allah. and Allah is All-knowing, All-wise. (*2)

Explanation:
In pretty much every culture the man worked, the woman didn't. The man had to provide for the family, therefore he needed the money more so he could get started (take care of his family, start a business, ect.)..the women on the other hand got married to the man who would be working, so she really didn't need the money that much. So it makes sense.

Fliping heck! not even one person decided to even make a comment on it. For a start if I was a Muslim women, I would question and ask about these verses. You don't get gunnah for questioning things Allah isn't going to send you to hell for it!

Perhaps am on the wrong forum!

Okay, that's good Alhamdulilah, but then if this is your own attempt to compile a list of responses, why are you complaining if no one discusses/comments on it?

You can discuss them, I don't want to get into a religious debate about them, thats all.

Well I don't mind a debate. However I think firstly the verses need to be explained then maybe we can have a debate on them.

For instance look where it says "lot offers his daughters to be raped by mob of rapers" now lot was protecting someone he was protecting the "handsome" men, from the mob who not only raped but also indulged in homosexual activity. So rather then giving them men up to the mob of rapers he offers "daughters out of the Ummah" not his his daughters and offered them in marriage to the mob so that they do no commit this evil act of rape and homosexuality.

I think in (bible) Genesis, he actually offers his own daughters, and says to unto them what ye see good, and implies the girls are virgins which was not true. But thats the bible the Christians need to look into that.

I will post it on a website. And provide a link in Islamic forums once its done. This is just the foundation part of the article. I am planning on doing the same to the whole Qu'ran to each ayate. Not everyone reads the Qu'ran in Arabic, and even if you read it, sometimes you still can't make out what is happening or what is the significance to the choice of words. There are many controversial veres in the Qu'ran which need to be explained.

do not make comments like that

O ye who believe! Ask not questions about things which, if made plain to you, may cause you trouble. But if ye ask about things when the Qur'an is being revealed, they will be made plain to you, Allah will forgive those: for Allah is Oft- forgiving, Most Forbearing.
Some people before you did ask such questions, and on that account lost their faith.

In Arabic. If you can understand Arabic then there is no ambiguity, its only when you translate the text the problems arise.

[QUOTE=Yara Dil Dara;234801]Males are to inherit twice that of females. 4:11 (*1)

[/QUOTE

Salaam,

In addition to your explantion, the man is also required to provide for the women, while the women are allowed to keep all of their money. So when it comes to inheritance, the women get to keep all their money for themselves while the men have to use the money they recieve to provide for the family. So it would make sense that the men would have to get more than the women. Also, if you think about it the women are pretty lucky because the men have to spend on them and they get to keep their money for themselves! :)

Hi, The question was to make you think.

When I picked up the translation of the Quran, I never found it hard to understand.
They way you look at it is you concentrate on a point of the needle and you forget the existence of the whole needle.

If you go and look for contradiction, than you only convince yourself.
I did not found, yoou supposed contradiction, what you posted [post 20], hard too understand at all, (no contradiction at all).

That's why I asked how is the Quran hard to understand?
The question was not because I found any difficulty with it.

I've read many posts that I've been directed to on this forum; however, none have satisfied my questions about the translation of the Quran. In all due respect, the translations seem to cause many different interpretations of Islam. In this regard, Islam seems as diverse as Christianity.

As far as the Quran and the abuse of women go, I like to be optimistic and believe that the abuses are taken out of context, or outdated. However, since I do not speak arabic, I'll never know.

Which questions are those?

The problem comes when non-muslims and some muslims begin to equate translator with Islamic scholar, specially when many of these translators did not have a formal education in Islam. If you bring up a specific example I can show you exaclt what I mean.
