we have to realise the situation we are in and change our condition by doing tazkiyah nafs which is purifiying ourselves of our spritual heart dieases before its to late and then we regret forever like satan is doing know in forever in the curse of Allah (Swt), for not bowing down to Adam (A.S), because his nafs (ego) would not let him which caused him to fall drastically for ever and for ever even though he nkew allah (swt) more than any thing or any one, but this did not help him as he was not purified
