Newcastle and Middlesbrough were relegated from the Premier League as Hull City and Sunderland beat the drop on 'Survival Sunday'.

All four of the struggling sides suffered defeats on a tense final day of the season meaning that the North East duo who occupied 19th and 18th place at kick-off were still in possession at 6pm.

Aston Villa's 1-0 home win over Newcastle ended the Magpies' 16-year stay in the top-flight and made Hull City's defeat by the same scoreline to a much-changed Manchester United side at the KC Stadium academic.

Middlesbrough needed a miracle to beat the drop and slipped out of the elite league after a 2-1 reverse to West Ham at Upton Park with Sunderland surviving despite going down 3-2 at home to FA Cup finalists Chelsea.

Fulham claimed the final Europa League berth for next season even though they were beaten 2-0 at home by Wembley-bound Everton, with Tottenham suffering a 3-1 defeat at Liverpool as the Reds secured second place.

Arsenal ended their season in style as they romped to a 4-1 Emirates Stadium success over Stoke, while Manchester City brought the curtain down on an expectant Eastlands with a 1-0 victory over Bolton.

Wigan ended their dismal recent run with a 1-0 JJB Stadium success against Portsmouth while already-relegated West Brom took a point from their 0-0 draw at 10-man Blackburn.

More to follow...

Nigerian United fan kills rivals

A Manchester United football fan in south-eastern Nigeria drove a minibus into a crowd of Barcelona supporters, killing four people, police say.

Ten other people were wounded in the incident in Ogbo town, after United lost Wednesday's European Champions League Final 2-0 to the Spanish team.

A police spokeswoman told Reuters news agency: "The driver passed the crowd, then made a U-turn and ran into them."
He is now in police custody. Both teams have a large fan base in Nigeria.
"The man confessed to doing it on purpose," police spokeswoman Rita Inoma Abbey told the BBC.

"He now says he doesn't know why he did it, but it was an intentional act."

Football fans across Africa closely follow the European leagues, which recruit some of the continent's best players.

Earlier this month, a Kenyan Arsenal fan hanged himself after his team's defeat in Champions League semi-final second leg by Manchester United.

Comment: Like i said, it was a game football, we loved, we watched, and for the ManU fans, to get over it. Not the end of the world!! We have better things to do with our lives!!! Alhamdulillah!!

Sexist!

Anyway, Arsenal are only good when they play well, when they're not playing well then their little kiddies are push overs, they don't know how to grind out wins.

Even though I'm a Man Utd supporter, at the present time Barcelona are the best team, some of their play is out of this world. Considering how much Madrid have spent they are seriously below par, I'm glad United got rid of that arrogant Ronaldo, let's see if he wins anything this year ;D

I dont get angry when i am told i dont know jack about make up..or anything similar that girls enjoy doing.

Here let me teach you something today

look at the goal that starts at 1:02 and tell me if Manchester united can score like that consistently...............manchester united are notoriously known for parking the bus.. against teams who are better than them at passing....manchester united are more experienced and have more trophies but 'arsenal play' is the ultimate advert for football

this is what we did to barcelona........we beat them with style

Look at wilshere passing with a single one touch....and look at fabregas turning deftly like a ballerina to release nasri....its just magical.

When was the last time Manchester did something like that

 Did I say Arsenal aren't good? When they're on their game they can beat anyone (as shown in Barca game) but to be a good team its what you do when you're not playing your best, Arsenal just haven't got that yet, it's all good playing pretty football but its the end result that counts.

You are wrong again....arsenal were not playing well against barca but they got a good result...they played tactically....and on wednesday we didnt play well against stoke but we got the result.

There's no point showing me all the goals Arsenal have scored against United lol  it's not going to change anything, at least I acknowledge Arsenal are good, but because I'm stating facts about the poor side to them you don't want to hear, typical.

Like i said before arsenal have changed...they are more mature and stronger now.....its clear you havent been watching the premier league properly.

Henry was a legend but we sold him because he was at an age were his performance would decline......we did the same with patrick vieira and so on.

Manchester united are a better team than Arsenal but arsenal play with style and now recently they tend to tough it out, and they're looking dangerous.

Manchester united and chelsea are in decline because they are not properly replacing players...and they have debts too

Arsenal built they're own stadium and have been competing at the top level year in year out and now they are virtually debt free......soon they'll lift a trophy and they could do that this Sunday.

once the floodgates have opened we could win many trophy's

Manchester United's decline is not yet a fall but alarm bells are ringing

Sir Alex Ferguson has always enjoyed the last laugh before but there are signs he lacks the resources to rejuvenate United

Lol yeah I've never watch the Premier League I just imagine football matches.

I don't care what the Guardian say I speak from what I see. Having said that, I agree with what you said above, most of United players are hitting late 30's bar a few, if there's no replacements I don't see much trophies on the horizon. But your team are all young. I think Wenger isn't using Arshavin well enough, he is a top player. Fabregas should pen a new deal, if he goes to Barca he'll be playing second best to Iniesta and Xavi.

I hope Bham put up a fight on Sunday, as a neutral I'm looking forward to it :D

If Fabregas was to go...Aaron Ramsey would slot in straightaway ....arsenal is a factory whereby young players are turned into superstars if one leaves another fills the void....patrick vieira left...fabregas came in.....and if he leaves we have two ready made replacements...in the form of wilshere and ramsey

and Bham will play like manure 10 men behind the ball...park the bus take out the keys and just keep vigil.

Ramsey?!!! Fabregas is in another league. I agree Wenger is good with developing young ones, but to turn Ramsey into a replacement? No chance. He'll be good, but he just won't get to the level of Fabregas. If they are to sell Fabregas, I think Mesut Ozil from Madrid would fill the void nicely.

In the cup final, ten men behind the ball? I think they'll go for it, well I hope so anyway lol. :p:

"I intend to use him, I have had good reports from Cardiff," Wenger told the club’s official website. "He is on loan until Saturday. - Arsene
"He is always available and doesn’t hide. He has good vision and I believe he will be a very big player in the future. - Arsene
I believe with time he'll be able to dictate tempo just like Fabregas.....he may not have a lot of mental attributes but that will come with time....he's a lot quicker than Fabregas which is good

I would say ramsey is more like ozil or even iniesta in terms of how he plays......fabregas is more like xavi...zidane.....they're not very fast but their anticipation, composure, creativity and decision making is superb...they use all these mental attributes to dictate play in the middle of the park.....they dont have to be necessarily fast.

Ozil will cost us 30-40 million....we've never paid that kind of money for anyone in the whole history of arsenal.....why should we pay for ozil and destroy the development of Ramsey and Wilshere.

Abdullahii- I don't know much of Ramsey, but only what I see, not sure if he's back from injury yet.

United win today even though didn't play too well 4-0, Hernendez is banging in the goals, Rooney should have been sent off.

I support Arsenal because the hubster supports Arsenal. But I still don't understand the off-side rule. I don't understand how it is given! *scratches head*
