Having troubles paying attention in class?

Just about surviving another lecture?

Falling asleep during class?

I have a great tip for you! Ditch your TV sets! Before you surround me with plugs and wires, please hear me out.

There is a way to be really good at paying attention, and there is a way of being rubbish at it. And the TV, it trains the mind to be really bad at it! Have you ever counted how long it takes for the angle of the Camera to change, on average about every 2 seconds, because of this, the mind learns to only pay attention to a shot for about 2 seconds, and then lose attention, as a new camera angle creates a diversion for attention.

As the mind grows used to this type of concentration pattern, the attention span decreases slowly.

Not saying burn your TV sets, just less of it inshAllah!

I forgot to add, that it also converts your brain wave style from Perky/attentive Alpha waves into sluggish/slow reacting Beta waves.....

So it's best that Young children don't spend too much time in front of the box...Forgive me children...;D

The brother has a point there.Even though the telly maybe entertaining, but we shouldn't waist our time on things like that.We should make the best out of our time (please refer to this article on the importance of utilizing your time Site)Allah(S.W.T) will ask us about the way we spent our time so let's make the most out of our time before we meet Allah(S.W.T).Prophet Muhammad also said that we shouldn't expect to live till the morning and if we are still alive in the morning to not expect to live till the evening.Who knows your soul could be taken away from you even before you type a single word or even a letter so we shouldn't take our time for granted and make the most of it by spending it in the way of Allah(S.W.T) either help your muslim brother in need or do something for your community, increase your Ibadah, memorise the Quran, work extra hours, take your children to the park, read a book, watch a lecture, or go to an Islamic event.Just make sure to always use your time in something which benefits you both in this world and in the hereafter, and to not waist it on filth which destroys your Emaan and your knowledge.Imam Malik advised Imam As-Shaf'iee when he told him to keep away from sin so that his knowledge would still grow and so that his memorisation wouldn't deminish.Let's take that advice from Imam Malik Rahimahullah and stay away from al-fawahish so that our minds can grow and flourish insha'allah.

Television is a great device if used properly. It can be an excellent source of good entertainment, but we can not let our lives be controlled by entertainment. It can be an excellent educational tool, but we must also take care of the physical demands of our bodies.

Television like all man made objects, is merely a tool to use or abuse the true gifts Allah(swt) has given each of us. Sadly, for many of us abuse seems to be the choice and we settle for immediate gratification.
