Is it ok to email a sister/brother to find out more about them regards marriage?

I think I remember reading a reply on islamqa/islamonline/sunnipath that it was ok, but I can't find the link.

Email is conveinient in that you don't have to meet, especially if they live far away. You can structure and think about what you want to ask. You also have a written record of what they say if things do go further.

Also it's not socialising or wasting time, I just want to ask questions and see if there is compatibility.

?????

When u email some1 then it's like being alone with them, and the shaitan is always the third one present. It would probably be better to contact their mahram.

But to get the mahram's details I still have to email them in some cases.
