Allah is the arabic word for God. The one and only God, who there is no other like. Allah!
AllahuAkbar! God is Great!

as far as i know ilaha is the arabic word for god,
and AL ILAHA makes the word ALLAH and its very unique in defining the one and only god -"THE GOD". Any1 knows something more about it ......?

:sl:
I think you mean LA ILAHA. This word comes from the word "ilaah" which is any object, idol etc. that is worshipped. when we say la ilaha it means there is no deity worthy of worship. The word Illallah translates into except Allah. La Ilaha is a negation going against all other deity while illallah is an affirmation that Allah is the one and only God.

I can understand Arabic, but can't really speak it. It's rather annoying, when someone comes to speak to me in Arabic I understand everything they say, but don't know how to say what I want. Does anyone else have that problem??????

Well alhamdullilah mine is the opposite actually. We have these little competitions, walahi I go blank seriously man first I'm all okay man this is easy, then for some reason I'm frozen(I think I know the reason why,but I'll :zip: about it).Lools.Back on topic yes, alhamdullilah I can write and read arabic, but speaking it is what gets to me.Well I use to know Arabic then suddenly it vanished. For some apparent reason maybe because I came to this place where all you ever speak is english and rarely nothing else, but alhamdullilah it's not going to be hard relearning it,it'll be a blast actually :thumbs_up .

Assl3moalaykum sisters and brothers.... i thought this was a real good idea, its been a few weeks i started learning a few words in arabic because i ant to ba able to understand the words of the quraan when i read them! So i thought if i could build my vocabulary up an then slowly inshallah i will get good at it..... although i can read it, but only with the little symbols otherwise i dunno what the exact word is. So what i started to do was practice a few words.
I didnt get very far because its not fun learning it on your own and neither do i know if what i'm learning i.e. th spellings whether they are wright or not... i was practicing writing as well but got confused on bits so below are a few of the words i attempted.
I would be grateful if the sister fluent in arabic can check and correct where i went wrong and then i can learn in a more enjoyable way inshallah.;)
so the list is as follows:[/B][/B]1

assalamu alaikum wr wb, I speak light conversational arabic as well as read, write and understand a small portion as I have studied arabic up to the pre- intermediate level at my university here in New Zealand.(unfortunately there are not enough students to take the class to a higher level) however I would like to participate more-or-less as a spectator in an effort to learn more for the sake of allah. Keep up the good work!!!:brother:

I'm a lebanese arab living in North America, and as much arabic schools I've been to and even though I go to the masjid everyday (since I go to an islamic high school) I still dont know how to read arabic as well and as fast as some of the hafiz students that dont even understand what they read. I can read, but at a slow pace. And my writing looks like it's a ten year old's. But all the arabic classes paid off because I can pretty much understand most words and I'm pretty good at the Lebanese slang. (even if it's useless)

It isn't fardh, but holds a very great importance in Islam, as it enables understanding of the Quran, refer to Surah Yusuf 12, verse 2. Also refer to Surah al-Hashr 59, verse 21. True understanding of the Quran is in its own language (arabic) and expression (tajweed).
There are two main levels of understanding; one is knowledgewise, the other is its hikma, refer to Surah Aal-Imran 3, verse 164 and Surah al-Jumu'ah 62, verse 2 for details.

I've been learning since year 6...I started the primary section wen I was in year 6....
But then from year 7-8 we had a change of 2 teachers, the first one only knew how to say 'shut up' in english ;D so he'll be like, this side shut up, this side speak'....We didn't learn much at ALL.......
The second one was better...But had no control of the class....Always was shouting:
"ya hemaar, barra barra out" and "you have shoes in your head" and "you have shoes inside your mukh ;D" as well as you have kalb inside you" ROFLLLL!!!

lol.....That teacher wasn't bangladeshi (as much as u wid expect them to;D)...He was Morroco/algeiran........His style of teaching was terrible too.....
But now we have a great teacher, although he is getting quite annoyed that everyone still doesn't get the hang of saying fa'alta fa'altuma, fa'altum ;D
But you cant rely on the teacher, you have to do it yourself....
How did I do it? Listen to the Quraan....What little you know, try to use it and expnad yourself by fixing things together....It all fits in after a while, Arabic is like a puzzle.
LOL Especially "you have kalb in you qalb ;D"

The other word is Jiddan which means -very /very much
cos they're saying it in another dialect, instead of jeem they use geem.
like saudi, Aden in yemen.

it would be good if you could learn the pronouns first. they're 12 in total then you would simply add them here and there....
saa'id hu = help him
saa'id haa= help her. note these are the attached pronouns. If you dont understand lemme know:)

Morocco has a very distinct dialect. Although the written Arabic is the same the world around, the spoken is unique in many areas. I learned my Arabic in Morocco and although I read and write it fairly well, very few people can understand me when I speak it. My daughter is very fluent in the Saudi Dialect and she has been busy trying to get me to speak it properly. My closest Arabic speaking neighbor is from Algeria, he can understand my Moroccan.
One of my favorite slang expressions is from Morocco. Simply "wa ka", means in English exactly what it says "OK". Because of the former strong American presence in Morocco many Moroccans adapted American slang into Arabic.

We studied in Yemen, we used kutub al asaasee but that was afterr we were taught sarf (conjrugation) and then we did the follow up books (lugha) of the medina books, then we did the 3 medina books.
After that we did tu7fa suniyyah, al mutammimah (kawaakib) and gatru nida, books in arabic grammer,
then we did mul7atul i3raab, its verses of poetry on na7w too...
Now though i do self study, i write my new words down, make sentences out of them so they stick (it helps) and we try to keep revising... insha Allah..
may Allah give us all tawfeeq

Barzakh, maybe if you started with conjrugation (sarf) learning the arabic scales of the verbs, we found that easier than starting with grammer, because by studying that first and building on your vocab it prepares you for the grammer insha Allah...

Do you know anyone that could teach you the sarf perhaps? if you can then you don't really need any books for a while...cos you would be concentrating on the scales of the verbs and putting new vocabs into sentences..then perhaps maybe after you're comfortable you could get them saudi conversation books and practise recognising the verbs (and their scales) there as well as getting new vocab,
If you do go on to do sarf insha Allah, i strongly recommend the Hans Wehr dictionary,
If you don't get anyone to teach you sarf then insha Allah you could start with the grammer, many people do so, medina books are common to begin with. khayr insha Allah

I read write and memorize Arabic, but sadly cannot speak or understand. I really want to learn Quranic Arabic but I'm stuck taking Spanish in school and I don't have enough free time to learn a language right now. InshaAllah I will learn it eventually.

I can speak, and write. I can read, but I don't always know every word, though I can decipher with dictionaries. I can't always understand spoken Arabic, due to accents or slang (I study Quranic Arabic). And, even more miracuously, I just finished my second year of studying Arabic.

An hour a week is all it takes (52 hour course). Anyway I'll find out if there is anyone currently teaching by this system in the US.
This system has been designed by a UK based teacher in his doctorate. The system has then, over the past year been used in several Quranic studies based courses with a 100% success rate (all students passing with 100%, no-catch). I'll give more information later, right now I must rush.

Anyway, a book is currently being written, and software is also being developped based on this teaching system, to teach people Quranic Studies, as this can enable people to learn the tabular system, the syntax system and the expression system of the Quran. These are all seperate fields of Quranic grammar covered in the grammatical part of the course. The course is split up into several levels, with a lot of research in development of a teaching system, which enables the student to learn at a high speed quite naturally. Upto four hours a week is recommended to do a bit of reading for a few minutes (upto an hour), a bit of written work (upto an hour), and discussing the topic with a family member or another student (2 hours). What you do in those four "homework" hours is always going to be within those hours, so if you're a very busy individual, just take four hours a week to do your homework (you are not required to take four hours, 2-3 hours is generally enough), and off course there is the one hour a week lesson which is either taught by the teacher, or via the software and book (via the teacher is obviously faster and more efficient, as everything is set by a human being. And he knows what he is teaching, whereas the software is based on rules run by a mathematical system). I don't think the software is going to be developped any time too soon; its still in its early design stages.
