Assalaamu Alaykum,

some scholars when referring to our relationship with the non-muslims most of us live amongst here in the West refer to a 'covenant' between us and them.

that is when the muslims first moved to places like the UK they agreed to be answerable to the laws of the land, to work here and live here in return for earning their living and being able to practice their deen freely and to be protected from persecution.

now is this covenant still intact now given the number of muslims being harrassed by police and other authorities? who change the rules radically from what we used to live under?

is it possible to be in a covenant with a people who are at the same time waging war and killing, raping and robbing the muslims in another part of the world?

if you believe it to be intact, what do you think would break it?

if you do not believe it to be intact, what do you think broke it and what do you think the actions of muslims should now be who have been raised here in the west?

assalaamu alaykum,
Daw'ud
