I guess we must have slowed down. Back in my AF days and the "Cold War" was hot. We estimated that every major city on earth could be destroyed within 15 minutes if either we or Russia ever had a lunatic running the show.

Both of us had truly gigantic nuclear arsenals at that time and a large percentage of it was in the air 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

Sadly, it looks like many of the worlds nations do have lunatics running the show today. Back in the early 60's there was a stupid little song making the rounds, it was called "Will We go Boom Today?" I will be happy when I can see the day, that song is an impossibility.
