Salaam,

Can anybody post the Islamic view for repentance? When does Allah forgive the sinful? I've committed alot of grave sins everyday and I feel hopeless now. I've committed a listless amount of sins, and very rarely did I ask for forgiveness/repent. Is there any hope for me?

Thanks.

The thing is that I commit sins knowing that Allah will not be pleased. Its like defiance and I feel ashamed of it now :(

I also think that by learning the negative aspects of your sin, you'll regret it more - like what harm it does to others, and even yourself. By remembering this, it makes you think twice about doing that act, or atleast it causes you to resist, a little bit more than it might have the time before.

Try reading about the punishments of the sins too, and look at the opposite by seeing the reward of the one who stays away from the sin.

Allaah Almighty has set some rules for mankind to abide by. Like you know - these rules are there to keep society just, without any sort of vice, corruption etc. Allaah Almighty doesn't just make laws to force them upon people - but it is a matter of who will listen and obey them, and who will turn away and transgress by breaking them laws.

This has been happening since the beginning of time, since Adam (peace be upon him) the first human to ever walk on the earth, and it will always keep happening - people will keep turning away from God's commands.

Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; Of what thing did He create him?

From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him)Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave,

(80:17 - 21)

God has been sending prophets & messengers, some with holy scriptures and some reminding people of God , to remind the people of a terrible day, when they will be judged on all their actions within this life,

Man shall on that day be informed of what he sent before and (what he) put off. (75:13)

Nay! man is evidence against himself, (75:14)

so Allaah Almighty will never treat anyone unjustly, but the person will be accountable for their own acts within this life.

This leads upto the part where we were discussing about peoples intentions and their acts;

Lets refer to this hadith of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his beloved family.)

="Actions are but by intentions and every man will have only what he intended. So whoever emigrated for Allah and His Messenger, then his emigration was for Allah and His Messenger. And whoever emigrated to attain something of this world or to marry a woman, then his emigration was for whatever reason he emigrated."

[Sahîh al-Bukhârî and Sahîh Muslim]

So referring to this hadith - which is a perfect example of peoples intentions and their acts, it makes one realise that if a person is doing an act, your intention is what influences that act.

obviously Allaah the All Knowing knows us more than we know ourselves, because Allaah Almighty created us - so Allaah knows our intention before we do any act.

Therefore we will be judged first and foremost on our intention, (now refer to this hadith)

Allah has written down the good deeds and the bad ones. Then He explained it [by saying that] he who has intended a good deed and has not done it, Allah writes it down with Himself as a full good deed, but if he has intended it and has done it, Allah writes it down with Himself as from ten good deeds to seven hundred times, or many times over. But if he has intended a bad deed and has not done it, Allah writes it down with Himself as a full good deed, but if he has intended it and has done it, Allah writes it down as one bad deed.

Hadith Qudsi 16

so from the hadith above - we can say this:

intention of a good deed = 1 good deed recorded.

intention + act of doing good = 10 to 700 (or many times over) good deeds recorded.

intention to do bad, but doesn't do it = 1 good deed.

intention to do bad, and does it = 1 bad deed.

So even if a person was going to do something good, with a good intention - but something bad came out of it - they will still get rewarded with a good deed for it because their intention was to do a good act.

But in islam - we know that Allaah Almighty is watching over us no matter what we do - so we have to be aware that we do keep our intentions good, because on the day of judgement - we will be questioned, and shown everything we did in this life, and them deeds will also be a partial proof for us entering paradise or not.

------

The third part was explained in the previous post, but i may have not been that clear.

Like you know - if we commit crimes, we will be punished for it whether in this life or the afterlife, but this doesn't mean that we shouldn't show God that we are sorry for our crime. Allaah is the Most Merciful and like i've said above - He knows our intention, therefore if we are asking for forgiveness sincerely with a strong intention of not doing that crime or sin again - then God is prepared to forgive us, because its a mistake that we shall learn from, something that we'll try our best to learn from so we dont do it again.

But like i've mentioned before, we will keep commiting sins in this life, some on purpose, and some by mistake.

..And there is no sin for you in the mistakes that ye make unintentionally, but what your hearts purpose (that will be a sin for you), and Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful. (33:05)

Their are 99 names in the qur'an of Allaah Almighty, each describing a special attribute to Allaah Almighty.. there are also 114 chapters within the qur'an, and at the beginning of 113 chapters, we recite (english translation of):

"In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Compassionate".

And the names Ghafooru Raheem (Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful) are mentioned so much times in the qur'an, which shows the eternal Mercy of Allaah Almighty.

There is a reason why them names are mentioned so much, and the reason is because Allaah is showing endless Mercy towards the people, so the people dont have a excuse to turn away from God, they wont feel afraid that they have too much sins - because they have proof that their God will forgive them if they sincerely dont want to do

that sin again, and will have a fresh new start of doing good from then on.

This is why if any human has come to islam - all their previous sins are forgiven and even turned to good deeds! because Allaah Almighty knows that the person is prepared to give up their bad acts, and due to this sacrifice - Allaah Almighty will reward the believers with paradise, because they sacrificed their desires (eg. gave their riches to the poor, worked hard to enjoin the truth and forbade the evil etc.) for a more better reward for what they did.

[As for those who believe (in the Oneness of Allâh Islâmic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, for them are Gardens (Paradise) as an entertainment, for what they used to do.(32:19)

This is when the situation of doing good, forbidding the evil, and enduring in patience comes in.

Allaah Almighty swears by time:

I swear by the time,

Verily Man is in loss,

Except those who believe and do good, and enjoin on each other truth, and enjoin on each other patience.

(103: 1 - 3)

This is such a small chapter within the qur'an but it gives a really detailed idea of what we have to do in our life, and if we dont do it - we're wasting our chance, wasting our lives when we could be doing good deeds to get a position in paradise.

Allaah Almighty is swearing by time, that we wont be successful unless we first and foremost - believe (in Allaah as the only true deity worthy of worship,

And enjoin on people the truth, this can include the truth about faith, and any other form of truth too, forbidding the evil etc. (and Allaah Almighty knows best.)

We should do good acts, which have been prescribed for us, eg. helping the needy, performing prayer, fasting, etc.

And enjoin on each other patience;

this can be in any situation, and patience plays a big role - like you noticed how;

- Jesus (peace be upon him and his beloved family) had to be so patient against the jews when they went against him.

- When pharoah was a oppressor to the children of israel and Moses (peace be upon him and his beloved family) had to stay patient for some decades before pharoah got destroyed.

- When the people of arabia attacked our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his beloved family.) and they tried to kill him, imprison him, etc. but after 23yrs of patience, nine of the countries in the arabian peninsula came to islam.

This happened to all the prophets, and like i've mentioned before in my earlier post, the believers will keep getting tested, the more a person gets tested in this life - the more Allaah Almighty loves that person - because that is a just way of rewarding the believers. This is the reason why Allaah Almighty has given the most toughest of lives to the prophets.

And thus did We make for every prophet an enemy, the Shaitans (satans) from among men and jinn, some of them suggesting to others varnished falsehood to deceive (them), and had your Lord pleased they would not have done it, therefore leave them and that which they forge. (6:112)

I hope you understand what i mean, if not - then please ask again. :)

Allaah Almighty knows best.

He committed a sin and does not know what he should do now

Question:

A person who has commited sin[who knew he is commiting sin -at the time]....now that same person feels such guilt that cant be expressed. What should this person do?.

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

The Muslim does not have to tell anyone of his sin, rather it is not recommended that he should do that. He should conceal his sin and not expose it. The Muslim should feel disturbed about his sin so that he will be motivated to repent sincerely. It is not sufficient for the Muslim to recognize that he has committed a sin, rather he should remember that Allaah is always watching, so that he will not do it at all. If the Shaytaan makes him fall into one of his traps, he must regret committing this sin and he has to give it up and resolve not to return to it.

In this way the Muslim will have done what Allaah requires of him, namely sincere repentance. The Muslim must not despair of the mercy of Allaah or think that He is unlikely to forgive his sin or guide him to repentance. For the Shaytaan is eager to make the Muslim fall into sin and then he is eager to close the doors of repentance in his face.

After he repents sincerely, the Muslim becomes better than he was before he committed this sin. Sincere repentance may alert him to things that he was careless about, so he gives up bad companions who help him to commit sin, and he stops travelling to immoral countries where he committed sin, and he stops watching and listening to things that Allaah has forbidden, namely singing, musical instruments and movies.

Perhaps he has been careless about these matters but the sincere repentance that Allaah has enjoined awakens him to that.

The Muslim may forget that Allaah is always watching before he commits the sin, because if he was aware of that he would not have done it. But if he had forgotten, then he should try to remember whilst he is committing the sin that Allaah can see him, and that the noble angels can see him, and that Allaah may decree that he should die whilst he is committing this sin – so how would he meet his Lord in the Hereafter?

If the Shaytaan manages to ensnare the Muslim before and during the sin, then let him remember afterwards that Allaah stretches forth His hand at night to accept the repentance of those who sinned during the day, and He stretches forth His hand during the day to accept the repentance of those who sinned at night, and that Allaah rejoices over the repentance of His slave even though He is the one Who guided him to repent and made it easy for him, and He has no need of the repentance of this person.

The Muslim must fear Allaah his Lord and regret what he has done; he must also resolve not to return to it and to do a lot of acts of worship. He must change his environment and friends, looking for something better. It is not permissible for him to mention his sin to anyone, and he should make his repentance sincerely for the sake of Allaah alone. He should also be eager to pray in congregation in the mosque and attend study circles.

We ask Allaah to help us to do that which He loves and which pleases Him, and to make it easy for us to do good. Ameen.

And Allaah is the Guide to the Straight Path.

Repentance with Allah is only for those who do evil in ignorance, then turn (to Allah) soon, so these it is to whom Allah turns (mercifully), and Allah is ever Knowing, Wise.

And repentance is not for those who go on doing evil deeds, until when death comes to one of them, he says: Surely now I repent; nor (for) those who die while they are unbelievers. These are they for whom We have prepared a painful chastisement.
[Surah Nisaa Ayah 17-18]

Surely Allah does not forgive that anything should be associated with Him, and forgives what is besides that to whomsoever He pleases; and whoever associates anything with Allah, he devises indeed a great sin. [Surah Nisaa Ayah 48]

Remember Shirk can be forgiven this ayah only means the people who die upon Shirk.

Say: O my servants! who have acted extravagantly against their own souls, do not despair of the mercy of Allah; surely Allah forgives the faults altogether; surely He is the Forgiving the Merciful. [Surah Zumar Ayah 53]

If you think that you have done to many sins to be forgiven, then infact your questioning Allahs power to forgive! Allah will certainly forgive you as long as your sincere and leave the sins forever.

Remember

And whoever does evil or acts unjustly to his soul, then asks forgiveness of Allah, he shall find Allah Forgiving, Merciful.

And whoever commits a sin, he only commits it against his own soul; and Allah is Knowing, Wise.
[Surah Nisaa Ayah 110-111]

And ask forgiveness of Allah; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. [Surah Nisaa Ayah 106]

Also I am sure you have heared this story before but it might be nice to hear it again, its adapted slightly and a bit long but please do read it.

THE MAN THAT KILLED 99 PEOPLE

Adapted for children from an authentic Hadith of Prophet Muhammad praise and peace be upon him

A long time ago there was a city full of very bad people. They stole from each other, lied, cheated and killed. It was just the sort of city satan loved!
Now in that city lived a man who was probably the worst person for miles and miles around. He thought nothing of killing anyone that got in his way!
Whenever the people saw him coming they would run away. They left their stalls in the market place and hid because they knew he had already killed ninety-nine people and they didn't want to be next on his hit list!

One day the man started to think about what he had done. He was lonely, no one wanted to be his friend and it wasn't much fun being by himself.
To be honest, he didn't like himself either! He knew that what he had done was wrong and wanted to start all over again -- but that was his secret.
Deep down in his heart he knew there was a God who had created everything. He also remembered from his childhood days hearing someone say -- probably one of those wise old men that lived by themselves and prayed a lot up in the damp old caves outside the city he thought -- that God, whose Name is Allah, is Kind and Forgiving.

He knew that the sins he had committed over the years were not little ones, but now he felt really sorry for doing them, but, the question he asked himself was "Would Allah forgive him for killing all those people?"
He kept asking himself the same question over and over again until he decided that there was no other way. He must find one of those wise old men and ask him.

Now satan became very angry at the chance of loosing this man's soul, it had been his for years and he was proud of the very good job he had done on him. So, he whispered to him teasing him with the thought -- what would the people of this great city think of him if he changed. After all he was the terror of the city and people would no longer look up to him anymore and what was even worse they would make fun of him and call him names!
But the more the man thought about it, he didn't much care what the people thought so, he asked where he could find one of the wise old worshipers of Allah.

Now, satan felt so mad he jumped up and down with rage!
Eventually, the man found one of the worshipers of Allah. The old man invited him in and gave him a nice cool drink of water.
At first it was difficult for the man who had killed ninety-nine people to ask the old man the question that had been troubling him. So, he sat down and sipped the water very slowly, and the worshiper of Allah waited patiently and didn't say a word.

At last the killer told the old man that he had killed ninety-nine people but that he was sorry for what he had done and wondered whether Allah would forgive him.
The old man looked at him, scratched his head and shook it slowly and said "No."
Satan rubbed his hands together, he was so pleased -- and so the old man became the killer's hundredth victim!

Now, the man thought he would try again, so he found another worshiper of Allah, but this time the worshiper was wiser and more knowledgeable.
After the man had told him what he had done he asked if there was a chance that Allah would accept his repentance. The second worshiper said: "Yes, but first you must really believe that there is no god except Allah."
They talked for a while and what the worshiper of Allah told him made a lot of sense, so the killer told him that, yes, he really did believe.

The worshiper was delighted and told him: "Now that you have believed, you must not stay in that wicked city a moment longer. You must leave right away for the next city where you will find good people worshiping Allah."
The man was very happy to hear this and set off straight away for the city of good people. Satan stamped his feet in anger -- he was furious!!
The man had only gone a few miles when suddenly he died. Both the angels of Paradise and Hell came to take away his soul. They didn't know what to do -- was he to go to Hell or was he to go to Paradise?

They discussed the matter between them. The angels of Hell told the angels of Paradise that because the man had never done a good deed in all his life they thought they should take charge of his soul.
But, the angels of Paradise told the angels of Hell that the man had repented and was in fact on his way to the city where they worshiped Allah.
The angels just could not decide who should take him. Did he belong to the angels of Hell or to the angels of Paradise?
Just then, an angel who had taken the appearance of a human arrived so the angels asked him to decided for them.

The new arrival thought for a minute, then, he advised them to measure the distance between the man's body and the two cities.
He told them that if his body lay nearer to the wicked city, then he belonged to the angels of Hell. On the other hand, if he belonged to the angels of Paradise, his body would be nearer to the city of good people.
The angels went about their business and measured the two distances and found the man's body lay nearer to the city of the good people by just the span of a hand! So, the angels knew that the man had been forgiven, and so the angels of Paradise took his soul gently away.
THE END

Now Im sure your not a massmurderer. :) (If you are, keep it to yourself lol joking)

As salaamu alaykum,

I'd just like to Add the Conditions of At-tawbah InshaAllah:

1. An-Nadm
, Which is remorse

2. At-Tark, Which is to leave off that sin straight away

3. 3adam ar-Rujoo3, Which is to not return back to that sin.

And if that sin had harmed someone, i.e. harmed that persons wealth or honor etc. Then there is a 4th Shart.

4. Talab al-Maghfirah , Which is to ask forgiveness of the person he wronged.

Waalhu a3lam!
