if you have loads of money.. you can stay at the only resort in Pangkor Laut....

But if you are just like any other Malaysians... you can live on the main island and hire a boat to bring you to the coral areas in Pangkor Laut... go to turtle beach too.....

This coming Chinese New Year, I might be in Putrajaya again... helping my sister moving into her new house...

Snow is beautiful, it gives such a feeling of cleanliness to the world. But, in spite of it's beauty, it has hidden dangers that can be fatal to one who does not know how to live with it.

Sadly, if this winter is like past years we will see many deaths before the winter is over. Many will be on the reservations where the people will be trapped without food, water or heat. Others will be on the highway of people that loose control of their cars while driving on ice.

*sigh* i'd say your lucky, lol. Were presently having a snow storm, with approximately 25-30 cms of snow falling today:uuh:

Last year we nearly broke the record with + 300 cm of snow for the entire winter season:|:|:|. And as Woodrow said, it can be quite dangerous; rooftops collapsed last year because of the weight of the snow which had accumulated on them.

but it also has its positive sides..like waking up early in the morning and seeing a white winter wonderland city...the tree branches covered with ice...

I was just looking out my window at the snow drifts. They reminded me so much of the Sand Dunes in the Sahara I had to go outside and take a few pictures.

Here is my backyard "Frozen Sahara"

This last one I cropped. I was trying to get just the shape of the drift.

Here is one I just took of the moon. It was nice and bright. I was looking through a telescope and the camera wasn't flush up against the lense so I think thats why it appears dark.

Here is another one I took a while back. I also noticed a bright 'star' next to it and ended up finding out it was a planet. This was in the morning too!

And lastly, here is Jupiter. Unfortunately thats the best I can do without a telescope camera. Can't really see much in this picture but I think I got it right :D

You might have to click the pictures a couple times until you reach the full size. Imageshack sucks

Nice picture of Saturn. did you use a camera lens to get it. Looks like about 30x magnification about what I would expect from a 60mm lens. Mighty big lens.

All the pictures are taken with a regular digital camera. I just try to line it up as best and steady as I can with the lens. As far as the lens on the telescope goes, it says 10mm on it. I don't know what magnification that is. This is my sisters stuff :) I don't know much about it. It was pretty bright just looking at it with the eye so maybe it was closer than normal?

Sorry guys I forgot about this thread! The camera that was used in the first pic was some canon that I borrowed from my sis. It wasn't one of those big high tech ones. Just a small flat one. The other 3 pics were from some really old digital camera which I actually prefer because the canon is really sensitive and its hard to take clear shots through the telescope.

Güven, it was actually a full moon but I was having problems lining up the camera straight. Its pretty weird because it has that airbrush look to it so it didn't turn out as bad as I thought it would.

Thanks for all the comments :thumbs_up:thumbs_up

Here is a site where you can download a monthly star/planet chart each month. It is a very good site and is designed with new amateur astronomers and star watchers in mind, not load with the professional terms and math stuff that is found on the professional sites. Just simple stuff to locate what your are looking for.

http://www.skymaps.com/

While the site has lots of stuff for sale that is of interest for the serious amateur, the free stuff is all that most people would ever need.

As a bonus here is a nice free fun site. Very interesting but you have to join as a member(free)

One of Allaah(swt)'s many miracles. Those birds are a species of sparrow that live in cold climates. Their food is very high fat content seeds. If they were in a warmer climate, they would be very uncomfortable, they need the cold to keep the body heat at a comfortable level because of their high calorie diet.

Allaah(swt) has made a place for all of his creation.

I mentioned in another thread that we are snowed in and can't get out and that the car is buried under the snow. A member asked me to post a picture of the car. This is what it looks like when I open the front door.

The car is out there someplace, I am not going to step foot off of the porch.

We didn't get that much new snow, but because of the very low temperature the snow is very dry and drifting into high drifts. Just guessing it looks like the drifts are at least 8 feet deep.

Presently we are in Evansville, earlier this morning the temperature was at -36 F I believe that is about -45C. But we are slowly warming up, watch my weather banner in my signature. We were supposed to be in Zeeland last night and in Faith today.

The temperature warmed up a little so I edited the post to reflect that. I did not notice you had posted this before I did the edit. So if anhbody wonders where you got the -60C from, that was on the original post.

We did manage to get hold of a person with heavy snow removal equipment, he is going to send a crew over to dig us out.

Yea, How do people go about their day to day lives? Just simple things like get groceries and things?

The snow is so thick. It looks really rock solid. Was it more like ice? Im more used to seeing fluffy snow.

Did you have to call a snow plough to remove the snow for you or is it something that you local council or something provides?

Most people this far north. Begin stocking up on groceries in November and try to get enough to last until May or June. Most of the school age kids are home schooled.

The snow is so thick. It looks really rock solid. Was it more like ice? Im more used to seeing fluffy snow.
The consistency is more like fine sand or granulated sugar. It is much too cold for it to have any moisture so it does not stick. The bad part is the wind blows it into huge drifts.

Did you have to call a snow plough to remove the snow for you or is it something that you local council or something provides?
We are quite far from any town or even neighbors. We did manage to collect a lot of phone numbers of people who have heavy equipment. So we called a man who has a farm about 20 miles from us. He sent out a crew along with plows and snow blowers. His charge was reasonable. Mashallah

This is beautiful country, but it is a hard life and I would not recommend it to anybody who is used to city living.

Around here the horses are more of a necessity than a luxury. In many parts of South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming horse back is the best means of transportation. Especially in the back regions of the reservations, plus they are used on the cattle ranches. Horses are still valuable farm and ranch tools, and also good to have in the winter when the roads are blocked by snow.

This is Rowdy, Aabidahs favorite horse:

Our horses are out on the Cheyenne River Lakota Sioux Reservation. Here are some pictures out on the Cheyenne River Rez.
In the first picture the animals are Pronghorns, often called antelope. But they are not related to the true antelopes. They are a seperate species and the pronghorns are the only remaining members of the family. Beautiful animals. Very fast, I recently clocked a herd with my car and for over a mile and they kept up a speed of 40 MPH

As you can see this is very barren land with very few roads.

My wife Aabidah is native American of the North Cheyenne Tribe. I mentioned that in several posts. The Cheyenne are closely related to the Sioux and were allies in fighting the white settlers.

We do occasionally use the horses for travel out on the reservation. However, for the most part we just raise them to sell.

Some more Pictures of our horses, these are part of our breeding herd, that we sell the foals from.

:w: Ukhti Daffodil,

Periodically I have to use a wheel chair, but I have not used one for nearly a year now. Mashallah

I am considered 100% disabled, result of injuries during the Viet-Nam era.

My right arm and right leg were shattered and along with numerous other fractures, I have periods of time I am not very mobile. But, the past year has shown a tremendous improvement in my health and mobility. I remarried in April, started driving a car again, and as Allaah(swt) would have it I now seem to live in the car as we travel from 1,000 to 3,000 miles weekly.

I grew up in Connecticut, in the northern part of the state in what is now the Tunxis State Forest and the Metacomet Trail.

This is the area I grew up in:

One of my child hood friends is a resident in a nursing home. This next picture was taken at the nursing home, I could not resist taking it:

The pictures were taken in Nov 2008 at a time I thought was going to be my last visit anyplace.

I left Connecticut when I was 19 years old. Never did live for long in any cities, I guess I am a country boy at heart and love the woods, forests and open spaces like deserts or plains.

Oh no, we don't live in Nevada. We used to live in California. My family likes road trips alot.
We drove through Las Vegas and stopped to rest at a hotel.
Las Vegas is less haram during the daytime and has many attractions, shopping malls, Circuscircus, gondola rides...etc. It also has a residential population along with an elementary, middle and high school (lol I was surprised to see this). But still, it's mainly gambling, clubbing,...etc.

The rest of Nevada is very conservative on the other hand.

That is a highway, but I can imagine other roads look like that. There's lot of desert.....

I never noticed that.

Thinking of the car we drove, it just might be both. It was my dad's friend's car, he likes to fix up old classics and such.

Oh yes, brother, thanks to excellent cellphone service, we called the closest pick up service.

Hi everyone... today is the second day of the Chinese New Year, which is a 2-day public holiday in Malaysia... (I've got lots of mandarin oranges from Chinese friends and neighbours plus 2kg of Thai oranges we bought at the market on Sunday morning :D)

On Sunday night, the Chinese would shut down their businesses as they have to attend the most important event of the year - the grand dinner..

On that night I managed to get some pics on how deserted is our town, Kilang Lama on that time...(I was there as I had to buy many things for our own grand dinner too...:statisfie )

3229188600 1eae09e205 1?v0 -

Red lanterns for Chinese New Year celebration on the main junction of the town...

3229189518 8ced1ac604 1?v0 -

Everybody's home for the grand dinner..... the town was deserted... and it's just 7.00 PM..

3229192586 f1f1a4b4f2 1?v0 -

erm... a tree near the junction...

P/S: Happy Chinese New Year for all Malaysians, Chinese and Vietnamese worldwide... Gong Xi...Gong Xi...Gong Xi Fa Chai...

Cats can pick out the funniest places to take naps.

Pepper is a PC geek and he wants to be by the PC. this may also explain some strange posts in my name.

Rose prefers to find the smallest box she can fit in

Toby just falls out wherever he is. Is this actually comfortable?

Those pictures of Dubai make me sick. Theyre trying to create a paradise on earth. Its not a place of the Muslims any more. Theres people eating rats out the ground to stay alive but these people would rather choose to spend the wealth Allah swt has given them on the cause of shaytan. I hope they pay for everysingle dirham in the afterlife.

I pray they return back to Deen and spend their wealth in better cause. How helpful it will be for the Ummah if the Arabs establish Islam in its perfect sense!
